So GW has mentioned there will be yet another preview on release day. That seems odd to me, so I'm curious about what people think we might get.

Let me say that even though I don't play Necrons, I am super stoked to see a Xenos faction get lots of love. As for Marines, I think all the new models look great, and I'm trying hard to be happy for marine players too.

But wow, am I get impatient for news that ISN'T related to Necrons and even more so with Space Marines. If this another preview for more Necrons, I think I can take that, because being Xenos, they have been neglected. But boy howdy, one more Space Marine preview at this point would really damage my capacity to stay cheery.

Personally, I want it to be a preview of the Kill Team: Commorragh edition. I know, pipe dream.

I'm not terribly excited about the next (and final) Blackstone release, so that won't really do it for me, although an announcement about the next Warhammer Quest game from the 40k universe would be okay.

So yeah, I know it's pure speculation, but what do you think is coming down the pipe?

Codexes for both. Tabletop Tactics "hinted" as much in their latest video. They were playing SM v Necrons and heavily implied that there was more to come which would complete the 9th edition picture.

We also know that more SM models are due, as we have the leaked 'landspeeder' image, as well as the tank in the corner.

So maybe we'll get a break from Marines in September? October?

It doesn't need to be a forever break; I long ago resigned myself to the relative omnipresence of Marines. I just want some ideas about other things that are in GW's sights for this edition.

I'm fully aware I have no right to expect anything; the company has to hype the new product, and giving too much information away inhibits their ability to generate hype later.

Anyway, thanks for the response- it sounds dead on. At least me expectations are properly set.

Considering they've been doing these little online previews where they show just a handful of models, like the latest with the two Primaris characters, the Void Dragon and the Silent King, which to be fair are no small matter, but the point is that it's just four models, I'm willing to bet that the release day preview will be:

1) More models for both factions, like the Speeder and the yet-to-be-acknowledged Necron... *thing...

2) The proper Starter(s)

3) The Codex or Codices

4) A combination of some or all of the above

I don't expect to see anything that'll happen beyond the initial Marine and Necron waves, particularly when there are still things for both we haven't seen, and definitely nothing for side games on the day of 9th's release. They seem to be focusing on the almost-immediate right now with these frequent, small reveals, and not on what is going to come months from now. Which is quite understandable given the circumstances.

We're still waiting on things that were previewed months ago, like the House of Blades stuff for Necromunda, and the (proper) Lumineth, Gargants and Scions of the Flame on the AoS side of things. They probably don't want to risk showing even more things to come when they're still playing catch-up, particularly if they're wary of the possibility of another shutdown, stores on some countries remaining closed, production bottlenecks, shipping/distribution issues, or other unexpected delays.

It's not a matter of being positive, it's being constructive while feeling negative that's important here...

Heck, all I expect about the Release Day preview is showing off how the WHC team has been painting up their Indomitus kits. Then anything they show is still more interesting.

Re: previews, I agree with these!

I'm hoping bike captain and primaris land speeder. Although land speeder may be odd unless it's something specific.

Great job keeping all these points in mind, Fraters.  It's been like drinking from a hose recently, so much stuff, reminds me of 3 years ago when 8th was about to come out.  It's very much the same feeling, which leads to this!

It doesn't need to be a forever break;

Hey, Brother, this wasn't what you asked, but I might have some experience with what you may be feeling.  I dunno, only you know, but since I'm here, let me share.

I think you might be experiencing Burnout, but I might be biased, because I'm a little bit Burnt Out myself.  And it's not necessarily Marines, I think it's 9th ed in general.

The same thing happened to me before 8th, too.  Every day there was just so much stuff (after years of getting nothing), I couldn't process it all.  Iirc the full month of May 2017 was previews, then 8th came out that June, and I didn't even start on anything until mid-September.  I went from very engaged to zero activity for months.

I actually missed things I could've participated in, like a new Warhammer Store just opened 15 minutes from me and the Konor Campaign, but I couldn't get excited.  Then suddenly I had An Idea, bought stuff for it, worked on it in just 6 weeks and won an Armies On Parade for Monsters & Warmachines.  Things just clicked.

Like dealing with quicksand, I think the winning move is to not struggle against it.  It doesn't mean to go along with it, it just means, don't push it, give it time, let yourself just float.

we still haven't seen that primaris speeder. maybe they'll reveal that and some last few necron things? revealing something on a preorder day this big does drive home the feeling that GW wants to get back to their schedule as much as possible.

I'm a bit torn on the idea of a speeder. Given that we have so much repulsor tech now I think it would have to act as a mid range primary tank like a Predator substitute and it may lose it's identity if it does.

It's hard to second guess what else could be coming which is nice, I really enjoyed the "oh wow they made that!" reveal moments like with the techmarine and chaplain on a bike.

I’m not 100% sure we’ll see those vehicles just yet. We may see full, non-“ETB” kits for some of the Space Marine and Necron units in the Indomitus box first, and that Necron ‘thing’. That fuzzy image of the vehicles has them painted in Blood Angels colours but also along side Ultramarines bikes and troops. Correct me if I’m wrong, but so far all the Space Marine releases since eighth edition have been very Ultramarine specific/led, minus the specific characters for other chapters.

For GW to suddenly change that approach, immediately after ninth is released, and have Blood Angels be cover boys for new vehicles doesn’t fit. Don’t get me wrong, I love my Blood Angels and would happily take a new speeder and Baal variant tomorrow. But I see that as being part of a plot progression down the line where Roboute seeks Dante out again for his experience of working with Necrons against the Tyranids (and then we finally see GW decide if Dante crosses the rubicon and/or dies).

Alternatively (and also arguing with myself, go figure), it’s entirely possible it was just an image from a future BA codex showing the vehicles in that colour and they will be shown off this weekend in UM blue.

I guess this is the fun of the previews
