Helias_Tancred
Just curious, with the new 9th edition battle space changes, what would you do if you owned a beautifully painted 6x4 Realm of Battle Board that is the centerpiece of your 40k collection? I also have a ton of well painted terrain for it, all of it including the board I painted myself. It kinda irks me with these changes, but I understand the rationale behind them. I play with a small circle of friends and I'll imagine I will go on hosting games on it, but I'm curious about what you guys would do? Thanks. Bryan Blaire
Keep using it? The minimum board sizes are just that... minimums. Just play on the 6x4 board. Bat33.1
If you want to practice for tournament play just mark out the 44x60 with masking tape or make up a timber 'picture frame to reduce the size. If you are just using it for your own games leave it as it is and try 9th on a 6x4. If you're happy how it plays no need to do anything Magos Valkamar, ThatOneMarshal, Doghouse and 1 other 4 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/365019-so-what-now-with-my-6x4-realm-of-battle-board/#findComment-5559623 Share on other sites

Wulf Vengis
If you can't use it in active gaming (whether that be 40k or d&d or any other table top setting/game) you can always use it as a display board when you're not gaming. Doghouse
Like Bryan Blaire says above it's minimum sized recommendation, it's not a mandatory new size. They are only suggesting this scale because it is the most universally accepted size of the average sized dining table and happens to be the same size as two kill team boards. If you are set on changing it mark a border around the board to reduce the size, even four L shaped corner pieces you can put down to mark out the edges would work. You could even use terrain, say put a building or a crater or barrel marking out each corner. You could even use this dead space boarder for putting your removed minis and dice and things on. :) Kenzaburo, Evil Eye, ThatOneMarshal and 3 others 6 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/365019-so-what-now-with-my-6x4-realm-of-battle-board/#findComment-5559647 Share on other sites
ThePenitentOne
My table consists of 12" square tiles. It was a prototype, built with wafer layers of corrugated cardboard with nylon mesh screen over drinking straw pipes and framed with stiff card. I had nine tiles built. As I said, however, they were always meant as proof of concept. My finished table will use proper foam core instead of corrugated cardboard. I'm going to size up to 15" squares. It isn't perfect, because I can't get to 44", but I can get to 45". They recommend playing Combat Patrol and Incursion on the same sized board because they would have had to increase by a full 30". With my 15"x15" tiles, I'm free to increase my incursion surface to 45"x45". On the final boards, I'm hoping to incorporate LED's for night fight scenarios. Coolbeans
I'm still only playing on 6x4 mats. They just want to sell their kill team boards, it's GW. They just want your $$$. Firedrake Cordova
The "new table sizes" are just minimum acceptable board sizes, nothing more. The situation for anyone who owns a realm of battle board in 9th Edition is exactly the same as it was in 8th Edition, as far as the rules are concerned. firestorm40k
I believe I've seen the word 'recommended' used in WarCom articles at least once in relation to the new board sizes. So I'm taking them as just that; if all you've got is a 6'x4' Realm of Battle board, just carry on using that regardless :) At the end of the day, GW have set out these board sizes partly because you can fold these to fit their boxes well; Kill Team and Warcry boards can be put alongside each other to make these sizes; and (crucially) companies that make gaming mats etc. aren't (yet!) making products to GW sizes. Maschinenpriester
I as well have a homemade board which measures 6x4. I also have modular hills that are 8x8" so they would not work with the new dimensions either. I will still play on my board that input lots of work and love in. what I will do if someone wants to play on a smaller table is putting some masking tape on the edges to mark out the new borders. Would that maybe wor a s an option for you? mughi3
Brother Helias, Horus Heresy/Age of Darkness/30k continues to be a thing, it might be time to take the Road to Thramas! This - It isn't like GW is forcing you to play on something different. or even a certain edition We still play 5th edition on 6X4 tables all the time. RandyB
As others have said, keep using it. From what we have seen of the missions in 9th, deployment etc. is measured from the center, not from the edges. (And if I am wrong here, its because I haven't seen all those details!) Frontline Gaming started selling 44x60 mats some weeks ago and others will no doubt follow. UK GW stores have been told to return the 40k RoBB to base but they still have the AoS version for now. I would be sure that AoS will follow the smaller board size once it's next update arrives. Your board, your game, your choice. Most tournament players are going to want to play on 44x60 simply because that is what they will be gaming on at events and the smaller board along with a 5 turn game is what they need to understand. The few 9th edition battle reports I've seen on a 44x60 look odd at the moment they seem cramped but I am sure it will seem normal enough in a few months. Fajita Fan
I kinda like that there will be sideboard room on my 6x4 mats for dice, tape measures, a small library of rule books and FAQs, an iPad, laser pointer for LoS, cards for stratagems, models yet to deep strike, dice tray, can of Monster, etc. Sword Brother Adelard and Helias_Tancred 2 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/365019-so-what-now-with-my-6x4-realm-of-battle-board/#findComment-5560142 Share on other sites
Warsmith Uveron
Iam going to keep using the 6x4 when at home. Only 40k is changing at the moment and with 30k and Titanicus the 6X6 play space will not go away.
