angrom
Alright so it seems that nothing changes for our legions in the FAQ but there is a subtle change to monolith. Now it is specified that units coming out of the portal are considered as disembarking from the vehicule where before nothing was mentioned and so was more like a deep strike but close to the monolith. With this new disembarking status is there anything that forbid us to do normal move and charge out of the monolith like normal disembarking units? BaconCouch
‘Set up the unit so that it is wholly within 3" of this model and not within Engagement Range of any enemy units ; the unit that has just been set up counts as having disembarked from a Transport for all rules purposes.’Yes, they disembark within 3 inches of the Monolith, and then they can take their movement, so you'd deep strike at 12, and could walk forward 5, putting you at 7 inches from the enemy as I read it. Daimyo-Phaeron Lenoch
Deep strike at 12, disembark 3, then walk forward five, and all of a sudden you’re inside of 4 inches. Maybe the gauss reapers have some value after all. angrom
So if it works as I read it we could play it space marine style. Deepstrike the pod sorry monolith and use the stratagem to teleport in a second unit, use an overlord nearby to provide the +1 move aura and use the strat to provide my will be done to the two units of 2 gauss reapers. It is effectively 80 heavy bolters shots that hit on 2+. Or play it the melee way to teleport 2 unit of skopekh destroyers and charge in Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/365193-necron-faq-open-new-possibility/#findComment-5564886 Share on other sites
Tyriks
The problem is nothing can disembark the turn it lands. So you can u have to deep strike, survive a turn with the opponent not moving too far away, then disembark. But no one is going to leave vulnerable units sitting there, and most games the Monolith won't survive long enough to disembark. I'm talking T9, or a 2+ armor save, or Quantum Shielding or something. angrom
There is a bit of a grey zone here that might need FAQ though. Technically the unit is not embarked in the monolith and the unit is not using a disembarkment sort to speak but is rather setup thanks to a special ability in the datasheet of the monolith. The UNIT coming out that way is considered as disembarking for their own rules and effects but without using specifically disembarkment. I think the other way to visualized it is like if a unit was coming from reserve from a drop pod with an FAQ saying that the unit coming from the drop pod is considered as disembarking for all rule purpose. Does that make sense RAW or am I imagining things? Tyriks
The issue is the Monolith specifies they have to be set up BEFORE the Monolith moves. If it deep strikes, it has moved that turn. MithrilForge
yeah it's a Gamble for sure, unless you have other units putting pressure on the midfield already and they take the heat off of the monolith...but your opponent would have to be looking outside the window at a bird flying in the sky during your whole turn for you to make that captain obvious move without some form of tactical withdrawal or the serious focus of Firepower on said Monolith Perhaps it will get some boost?, who knows?.... they are making a New model for it so perhaps some sweet rules for 6 months of good sales...then a nerf (geez i'm so jaded) Mithril Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/365193-necron-faq-open-new-possibility/#findComment-5564984 Share on other sites

You are right :( . Hopefully something will fix some of our deepstrike limitations in the new codex. We can still pull the 1cp Dimensional corridor from a hidden blob of warriors with new weapons or on a blob of destroyers for a guaranteed charge without having to run up the field. Anyway with the cost reduction for Monolith ans hopefully new models and rules we might see the monolith a lot more on the tables Tyriks 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/365193-necron-faq-open-new-possibility/#findComment-5565021 Share on other sites
