That's how it is for the regular Eternal War missions in the main Rulebook, too, so not surprised by that.

I think thats a big nerf for static shooting units eg longfangs unless theyre taken in multiples

 

Could be wrong but that seems to mitigate the power of going first, as well as infiltration units like Invictors and Incursors

Yeah your definitely taking a gamble if you deploy invictors aggressively now, and then go second. Played a game where they didn't last past turn 1 because I was trying them out for the first time.

 

I really think that they need to give whoever goes second some sort of boost or defensive stratagem. This set of missions really seems to favor whoever goes first in my limited experience.

the specialist detachments nerf seems stupid. I use the stalker pack myself. It's nothing fancy but the Saga of the Savage warlord trait as well as the relic Axe is in most of my lists for SW

 

I also use the Soulforged and Devastation detachment for traitors. That's definitely a huge blow for daemon engines and more specifically the Venomcrawler which has one of the best assault weapons in the game. I really feel I should just sell all my chaos marine stuff. GW basically just dumps on them every edition since 3rd.

 

I think the biggest loser is Astra Militarum. I feel it was a huge reason they could stay competitive most of 8th.

 

My thought on this is that they should have just increased the cost for the detachments or add in a # compulsory choice of units to be in the detachments

Alternating deployment and no first turn kill focus makes our cyber wolves an advantage again

Also lone cyberwolves could hurt non Tau units looking to overwatch, waste the strat on a cyberwolf or let it tag a Baneblade :)
