1s=heretical
Lore question who would win if they were to Duke it out? Supercharged vamps or beefed up knights?
Leonaides
Lorewise, depends on who's writing it and in which codex you see it. Could a bunch of death company shred a squad of deathwing- absolutely. Could a squad of deathwing survive against a bunch of death company, yes.
Cleon
Lore wise it depends what the two units are equipped with - Death Company tooled up with power weapons would mulch a 'shooty' deathing squad, but 'melee' (Lightening caws or Deathwing knights) would slaughter Death Company with Bolters or Bolt pistols & chainswords. Death Company are probably (Lore wise) the best linebreaker unit in Power Armour, (definitely for the Imperium, it's probably tied with Berzerkers overall), but Terminator armour is a major game changer (and Centrurian suits, urgh), though that leads the Deathwing more to being a 'take and hold' rather than a 'shock assault' unit due to the extra durability. SnorriSnorrison
What Cleon said. Terminator armour is, in the lore, such a massive boost over power armour that even Death Company with power weapons would have problems getting through TDA veterans, especially the Deathwing. Don’t forget they’re driven mad by fury and will try to punch enemies to death with their bare fists if need be. Calculated hatred and the durability of TDA will outlast the assault of the Forlorn eventually. Not without losses, but pretty much in the end. In the crunch, DC will wipe the floor with most TDA units because of weight of high quality attacks if they get the charge. dread05
Imo the deathwing would end up winning, albeit suffering serious casualties. I'll base that just on the fact that you're facing a horde of uncontrolable lunatics vs the veteran company of a first founding chapter who still have their wits about them. The death company can cause serious damage but they cant form strategies, they're more about kill or be killed.
Leonaides
but that is kind of the point. By the time you are down to a squad vs a squad, its just killing Time.
dread05
Well i was thinking big numbers, like 50 dc and half the deathwing. At that point strategy will win over brute force I think.
Leonaides
Half the deathwing? For 50 terminators you'd need half a chapter...
Blindhamster
Half the deathwing? For 50 terminators you'd need half a chapter... Terminator armour is excellent, but not 10:1 good assuming the power armoured astartes have access to the armoury (melta weapons, plasma weapons, power weapons). Dont-Be-Haten
I would compare death company to genestealers with better armor. TDA is fantastic, but you're looking at crazed individuals who can shrug off mortal wounds, and are stronger than bulky terminator armor. There is no wrong answer but in the books ivw read terminator armor puts them at a 3:1 advantage
