What do you mean by his Warlord Trait doesn't function? It allows him to fight first in the fight phase, did something major change that doesn't allow that to activate?

 

You can always choose for a unit affected by this saga in the Fight phase to fight first even if they didn't charge. If the enemy has units that have charged, or that have a similar ability, then alternate choosing units to fight with, starting with the player whose turn is taking place. Deed of Legend: Slay an enemy CHARACTER with your Warlord.

It's that the trait is effectively worthless, because if ragnar is a possible choice for the opponent to target first, he will be the first target picked...always. So its not as useful as it could be.

 

Now, that being said, if he can survive to complete his saga, that would affect all the nearby units as well. Not sure how often that will happen, though :sad.:

I mean the trait seems pretty clear that they can be chosen to fight first even if they didn't charge. A smart opponent should target him first but if he has multiple fights across the board that require his attention he may not. You have to play smarter with the HQs now that they can targeted during HI. So keep Rangar near a killy melee mob and your opponent will be sweating to fight him or them. You can also combo with another HQ carrying the Armor of Russ or a Judicar and now the opponent can't do much when Rangar does his HI into that chosen unit.

It's no different than 8th though....

This type of skill highly increases survivability and damage output. This becomes a nightmare when you get the aura for nearby units. SW tend to use a lot of characters and our whole army gets heroic intervention, 6in for characters to hunt chracaters. So we always get +1 hit and almost always make enemies alternate units to fight with
