What I’m saying is I didn’t have to buy the supplement so it’ saved me that amount of money.

Ya, we understand that; It saved you about 28$. But next month you only saved 23$, and the month after that 18$. Until you surmount the cost of the product you actually use.

What Chapter master is also saying, is that long-time consumers are getting shafted when it comes to pre-existing purchases and the app. I have faith and fury and supplements and codex space marines, but I have to pay to view them on the app. Even though I've already shelled out about 120$ for that content.

One thing I do not understand is what value the app actually offers right now.

Current books in digital form? I already own the 8th ed books I care about, it's not like I'm ever going to read the fluff on the Drukhari codex for example... Certainly not between now and the time when the new one will come out (and the 8th ed one will be removed from the app).

When I play I already know most of the rules of the armies I'm facing and I can always ask my opponent for clarifications.

When I am at home I can find all the info I could ever need on any army (1d4chan, reddit, forums, whpedia, battlescribe, ...).

It doesn't even offer a list builder. And when it will offer it, it's going to be mobile only but list building is something I do exclusively on my pc.

I don't know, I had big hopes for digital rules support by GW but it seems we're months away, if not years, from a decent product.

Army rules for for factions I don't own is a big draw for me. I have met enough "honest" players in pick up games who either literally don't know their own rules or trust me it's in the codex/white dwarf/supplement/ and I learn after the fact they were wrong (somehow always to their benefit) or lying that I have completely lost trust others unless I know them really well.

Now I can look it up myself real quick no problem...well sorta becuase ar some point I have to start buying codexes.

That's the crux, for some it has value, like me who doesn't own a lot of the books and likes to poke around the rules. For others, it may offer nothing.

Exactly. My comment was simply pointing out that I cannot find any value in its current form, but I understand that others may like the app.

Whether they did not get some books, they like having them on their phone or they like building lists on mobile (coming soon).

There’s plenty of ways to spend money, both in life and in this hobby. Most of them are not ways in which I’d spend my money but to each their own.

The App has been update so this thread will open for update discussion.

Because not every update will be huge and because it will be regularly updated the discussion of WH App will be taking place here with any Updates announcements on NRA being linked to this thread.

Wow. Text search. Will wonders never cease?

Honestly, after being a big booster of the App during its promotion, and even after the unambiguously disastrous launch, I think I’m done. Having seen what’s apparently under the hood, and knowing both how long GW’s has to get this going and how much in the way of resources they had available to throw at this project, the fact that we’ve arrived here - where they have to write an article celebrating the fact that they’ve actually put their rules document into the app rather than shunting you to a PDF - has just killed any faith I have in them to successfully make an App right now. Maybe next time, guys.

So, this update added the core rules to the app (no more Google drive) and added a more user friendly/thorough search feature?

Ya, ok... The literal barest of minimums that should have been day 1 ready.

Knockin' it outta the park the James.

/sarcasm

Guess that's what lowest bidder looks like.

Granted, finding quality app developers to partner with for some projects was a massive headache at my last job. At the time I was convinced there weren't any lol

Nah, the bidding could have been lower than that.

I feel like they found out that Pete from Accounting made an app once, put him and some other people on it with no design direction, or planning and then Covid happened and it all went worse.

I'm glad they're taking feedback and I'm glad they're admitting their mistakes. But yeah, that was a mess.

We weren't promised it for 8th specifically, but they did shut down a good list builder at the end of 7th for copyright infringement, and IIRC hired the guy, and said basically 'watch this space'. But yeah, it's taken a long time to develop, and given they already had the AoS bulder, it shouldn't be *that* hard to make a 40k one if the structure of the existing app is good.

Problem is you can't really translate the AoS builder over because you're just paying flat points for everything and the only difference is what it needs to output unit wise when you occasionally get to pick wargear options. And based on that screen shot you shared, it could be programmed the same way.

The best course of action for this thread keeping being useful is to discuss what they are doing with the app, not what they could have done. That ship has sailed. If someone is not happy with the app best way is to go to Google play store and leave a review.

At this point in time, ranting here will change very little.

Let's keep this thread clean and informative for those that wish to use the app despite the known flaws.

I'd argue sending feedback in directly, as long as you take the time to frame it constructively and not as a rant, would do more to help than the reviews. Right now they are more likely looking at the rating as a whole and not the individual comments since so many of them are likely just angry rants.

As a free user, gave it a little shot see if it was actually improved. Certainly was and nicely laid out.

However I echo the sentiment of others: Why did this take post-release to do?

Honestly they should have come clean, pushed it back or rolled it out as a free beta and got community feedback on what we wanted.

I feel this was one of those things decided at the executive level and resulted in a right bungling.

There’s also some, uh, interesting choices made in the app, development-wise, that are going to hinder GW’s ability to really make this thing into an experience that a large segment of their customer base is going to pay what they’re asking for it. I don’t do native app development, but a friend of mine who does took a look under its hood, and...well...yikes. That’s all there is to say.

I really don't understand some of the changes.

A Chaos Lord now has the same PL as a Chaos Lord in Terminator Armour, but the Chaos Lord with a Jump Pack is higher than both.

At the same time, a Chaos Sorcerer is the same PL as a Chaos Sorcerer with a Jump Pack, but the Sorcerer in Terminator Armour is higher than both.

Like why? How did that make sense?

At least Chaos Terminators are cheaper I guess.

EDIT: But Space Marine Captains who are functionally the same as a Chaos Lord are 1 PL cheaper? Makes no sense to me. Given that Space Marine Captains and Chaos Lords have the same points value, I wonder if it's just an accident/mistake on their part?
