Looking at my current test list for my Successors (Artisans and Stealthy, naturally).

I have a 2 squads of bolt rifle eliminators, and could drop a Vindicare in with them to give some Look out Sir protection. Calidus + Stranglehold can really cripple a CP  heavy T1 Alpha.

I could swap out the 2nd eliminator squad, or swap the Phobos Lt. Swapping the LT would cost 20 points, and save me 2CP on Ex Tenebris.

Assassain could swap out for those 2CP depending on opponent.

I'm just feeling like the rise of invul save armies, and a heavier reliance on armor, is making snipers way less efficient. Current test games have been against Custodes and Harlies, so my testing is certainly biased.

Thoughts from the Shadows?

If you run Elims, I think you need to run two. Three is pushing it with points and one is rather inconsequential and easily removed. Get your two and then see what else you can fit. Personally, I am a fan of Ex Tenebris, because it is so versatile. However, I run non-successor RG. At that point you need to decide what is worth more. 100 points or 2CP.

I've seen a couple of things in my local meta which has devalued eliminators a tad

- less characters overall

- characters that are taken have decent invun saves

- more obscuring terrain meaning hiding from longer ranged guns is easier

I'd agree with Frater Cornelius that if you'r taking 1 unit, you should be taking 2. The question is, unless you want to spend 2CP to get more slots, should you over what is, right now, a premier anti tank unit (eradicators) when we have the best delivery system for them (SftS)

I'm fairly new to the Ravens, but I run a Phobos Captain with Ex Tenebris and he's been a workhorse taking out Characters from afar. My Eliminators have not been as impressive, but some of that has been really :cussty roles. I've also been playing a lot against Sisters of Battle, with so many damn invul saves. That said, my Elminators have proven good at clearing small squads of troops and been surprisingly effective at pinging down lightly armored vehicles. I working up from the Shadowspear stuff, so looking to branch into some more anti armor stuff like Hellblasters and the new Eradicators look excellent.

In the games of 9th I've played, there is also a ton more Obscuring/LOS blocking terrain. With Elims losing their NLOS on executioner rounds, I think this hurts their viability more.
Trust me, I want to like my two squads, but I feel they've lost a lot in the edition/meta shift.

Wow, I did not know that eliminators had lost the ability to shoot without  LOS. I wish GW would make a note with changes like that, when they are taking a fundamental rule away by changing a sentence.

It's like elder rangers, losing their -1 to hit in cover, when they changed the wording on camo cloaks. Is that really what the meant to do?

Just got home from my first game of 9e. Played against Death Guard. Old player new army. I’ll do a real write up and photos later tonight but Empruh of Mankine talk about TOUGH.

I had to squads of Eliminators and they honestly barely scratched his Demon Prince before melee became king in middle of the board. I don’t think Tenebris of the Korvidari Bolts would have made a difference. I might have to relook at a Primaris Librarian just to get Null Zone off.

I’m likely going to be using the Heavy slots for Eradicators in the future.

I believe this issue is due to an error in the FAQ. The FAQ states "Change the first sentence to read: 'Every time you select a target for this weapon, you can ignore the Look Out, Sir rule." However, this means you would be completely replacing the original first sentence which is what gives the Executioner round the ability to ignore LoS.

I'm hoping this is an overlooked copy-paste error and if/when GW realizes it, another FAQ will add back in the ability to ignore LoS, or the 9E Codex will simply retain the ability.

Until the codex comes out, we won't know if it's an oversight or not - maybe GW thought it's too much to ignore anything that might protect a character, and nerfed it to "only" +2 to hit and ignore cover. They shifted a lot of stuff according to the leaks, I wouldn't be surprised.
