I was looking at character models and noticed for example a BA Chaplin model and sanguinary priest have 32mm bases but old models like Brother Corbulo and Lemartes have 25mm bases.

Should they have 32mm bases put on them or is this not allowed as it would effect buffing bubble distances.

GWs usual answer is that models should be mounted on the bases they come with.

A lot of the Marine models that used to come on 25mm bases were switched to 32mm when the 32mm base was introduced, so you're probably absolutely fine to use either size.

However, it's really up to you.

Most of my characters are on 40mm bases, because I like them to stand out from the rank and file.

I find that the pros and cons of different base sizes are marginal at best, particularly on characters. A larger base is handy for bubble auras but can make manoeuvring and hugging terrain more tricky.

You are probably fine to use either base size but I would not worry too much either way. The differences in game play terms are so marginal that anyone complaining you are trying to play for an advantage deserves a beating with the BRB (and that is a hefty melee weapon in 9th :biggrin.:).

I've viewed it as this:

Basic Power Armoured Firstborn Marines are on 32mm bases. Any Firstborn Characters are always on 32mm or 40mm. Because the new Chaos Marine characters (all Firstborn) are on 40mm bases, and the only Plastic Firstborn characters that aren't on 40mm are ones that were released in 6th/7th.

Personally, I like the 40mm bases for characters. Allows for more interesting basing schemes and stuff.
