DEL 707
I made a thread in another part of the forum. http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/365737-starting-over-with-some-blood-angels/?p=5579714 Basically I've finally got some space again and I want to try to get back into painting, Blood Angels have always been my go to for this, takes me back to simpler times, staring at my 2nd edition box. I'm going to dust off my paints and kit and maybe hit out my local shop to pick up a 3 man primaris kit. Also any paints I'm missing. I'm was going to use the layer painting method, since that's what I've always use, I'm also using the Citadel paint guide app to select my paint. Just for the red armour, it should look like this. Undercoat - Chaos Black Basecoat - Mephiston Red Shade - Agrax Earthshade Highlight 1 - Fire Dragon Bright Highlight 2 - Evil Sunz Scarlet I'm not sure if those highlights are in order, I would have thought I would have highlighted with Evil Sunz, then doing extreme edges with Fire Dragon. Bright red then orange? If anyone has any other painting guides for Blood Angels, I'd love to see them. Xenith
I'd get mephiston red spray of you can, it'll take the pain (and layers) out of painting red over black. You're right evil sunz is darker than fire dragon, so layer meph red, broad highlight evil suns, extreme highlight fire dragon. Karhedron
I agree. Painting red over a black basecoat takes a long time to build up a decent depth of colour. I would probably only use black as an undercoat if going for a Flesh Tearers shade of red. I think GW recommend a black basecoat as means you don't need to pick out the armour joints separately. Also beginners often leave gaps in their colouring a black line is a lot less obvious than a white one. I use a white primer before I apply the red to make the colours pop but I do like to paint my models in 2nd edition style. Even if they are brand new models.
