Did the Thunder Warriors appear in previous editions?

More of a lore-based question, but were Thunder Warriors ever included in any of the previous iterations for Warhammer 40k?

There have been tid-bits here and there, but the most information we've received about them is through the HH books.

While helpful, there was never an instance where you could have a squad of thunder warriors roaming around on the table-top?

To the best of my knowledge, no, they've never had rules. Lore-wise they were extinct by the end of The Great Crusade.

Nope, the earliest the games have ever been “set” is the Horus Heresy/closing era of the Great Crusade, and the Thunder Warriors were all but eradicated long before that.

No the actual Firstborn never got tabletop rules :( Though arguably the old mk1 power armour model could have been one.
