WrathOfTheLion
It is news I think. I've been wanting Tempest for my Word Bearers project, but been unwilling to pay ebay prices for it, so I'll get the softback reluctantly. Beaky Brigade
How do these books compare to the leather bound size wise? I have I, III and VII and would like to complete the Istvaan trilogy with a paperback book II which I couldn't afford to pick up at the time. Sothalor
They're smaller by like... an inch and a half, maybe two, both height and width if I recall. WrathOfTheLion
They are definitely smaller, in both height and width. They are about the height of a standard GW book, such as a 40k codex or a AoS battletome. StrangerOrders
Yeah they dont have nearly as much pizzazz to them sadly, but you buys these for the sauce. You can get all you need for the game with the Red Books, but the content in these is just 'chef's kiss'. Heck, Conquest was the first softback and the contents were exceptional. My personal favorite bit was learning about how the insides of a subsector are structured and getting a look at various types of Imperial Worlds and their structure. Tempest has possibly the most tertiary elements of any Black Book, which makes it extremely worthwhile to own. Iirc it contains a Knight House (Vornherr), Two Legios (Praesagius and Suturvora), Militia, the UM, the Taghmata of the muster, general data on Warp Cults and extra WB fluff. Thats a pretty hefty dose of lore. Sothalor
Tempest also has the Battle for Ithraca City, which is a phenomenal addition to the battle if Calth and one of the best "battle report" style lore entries all-round. WrathOfTheLion
While I do love the hardback black books, the paperback ones are of good quality.I assume they print them locally, as they are made in the UK. They must be significantly easier to get in smaller quantities.I am missing the hardbacks of books 4 - 6, and have 6 currently in softback. I do wish I had those in hardback, but I think the cost and quality of the softback is completely fair.I hope that with book 9, they release it in both at the beginning. There are many people that will not necessarily need/want the hardback, and it would be best to not have it blow out and be unavailable like book 8 was. Sothalor
I'm sorry, I couldn't hear you over the sound of measuring my Tactical Squad movements of 17.3 mm and ensuring enemy targets are within their 69.5 mm Bolter ranges.
