Once the Codex drops and Heavy Bolters go to Dmg2, I think this is going to become one of the All-Stars... 24 x S5 AP-1 Dmg2 shots a turn threaten everything from infantry hordes to elite infantry, Monsters, and even tougher vehicles. Even if it gets tied up in combat, perhaps better than almost any other SM tank, the Prometheus can shoot its way free with such a high volume of S5 Dmg2 firepower.

Throw in the different ways to improve this firepower (i.e. Devastator Doctrine for AP-2, Chaplain Litanies for +1 to hit and/or +1 to wound, Captains/Lieutenants for Rerolls, Imperial Fists for Dmg3 against vehicles during Devastator Doctrine, Dark Angel's for +1 to hit when sitting still and additional 6" range during Devastator Doctrine, Deathwatch for various Strats to add +1 to wound and Mission Tactics for rerolls of 1s to Wound against certain FOC types, etc.) and the built in Ignore Cover and you have quite a powerful unit.

Finally, you can still hold 10 troops inside and, if one is your WL, you can reduce the cost of a single Stratagem by -1CP each turn (as long as the WL is embarked), meaning you could save an additional 5 CP per game for use on other Strats.

I make no assumptions about anything from FW at this point. If it still exists as a unit, and assuming the points aren't inflated beyond the cost of a land raider chassis and the wargear, it could indeed be a badass tank!

It’s in the munitorum field guide, yes.

This thing is a monster. I’ve been thinking pretty seriously about making one for myself. I’ve got three land raiders in a box and my Crimdon Fists would love one of these. I was honestly considering it before we heard about heavy bolters becoming D2 Pedro could ride in it with some vanguard vets, centurions or something.

This tank will be very effective. In fact, any tank that uses Heavy Bolters is going to have to be reconsidered. Predators and Razorbacks will be scary prospects in armies now.

So a Land Raider firing 24 shots a turn at D2 will be ferocious. Advancing up the table in a methodical manner with a Chaplain might be a game changer for large models, since you can easily receive a prayer or two and then move 10" towards the target of choice and blam. Catechism of Fire in particular springs to mind here.

Don't forget the HK Missile.

I was also kicking around the idea of Land Speeder Storms a few weeks back.  Suddenly, a LSS w/HB and Combi-Plasma seems far more attractive.

Not to deviate from the point of the thread, but there are a lot of vehicles that look significantly more interesting with 2-damage heavy bolters. The fire raptor also has quad heavy bolters. You get land speeders with two, and a squadron of three of those probably costs a fair bit less than a Prometheus. Storm talons might become a great pick, Mortis dreadnoughts, including Contemptors, can have four heavy bolters each.

Once we see the final rules we’ll be able to make some decisions on this stuff. Maybe we’ll want to spam heavy bolters and maybe the Prometheus will be a good platform for them. They’ll still have to compete with stuff like storm cannon leviathans though, unless those also change.

It’s kind of a frustrating time, isn’t it? It looks like all codexes are in line for a pretty major shakeup. We have some idea of the changes we’re getting for marines but we don’t know the new costs of anything, or what’s going to legends. And we know almost nothing about the changes other armies are going to have, so what kinds of threat we’ll have to deal with.
