Biggest take aways for me:

1. Contekar put out a lot of dakka at 10 inches.

2. We're getting Plural new Rites of War, so more than just Cross of Bones.

3. A Talent for Murder's wording has been changed to "Non-vehicles" I assume meaning bikes, and jetbikes are now fair game!

I'm hyped!

Re #2, we've known the NL were getting more than one Rite of War for many months now, since February in fact. They specified "new rites" back when showed the Contekar for the very first time.

Some nice stuff here. Hoping for Raptors to get a buff because they badly need it. Also reposting this because I am so in love with this art:

So here's some fun math, with the volkite and assuming there's nothing extra to the contekar, a squad of 5 can kill a castellax/arlatax/domitar with no casualties. Now, 5 fist terminators from any legion also do that on average, but there's not a lot of equivalency to the volkite in terms of weapon role.

I am curious to see whether the Contekar will have the ability to swap out their Nostraman Chainblades at all, having some versatility would probably broaden their appeal

Didn’t realize Contekar had every model with Heavy Flamers. Toasty!

...and they each can replace that for a volkite culverin? That’s some serious CHOOM.

This interestingly becomes a pseudo form of a idea I have thought about for some time: the Heavy Terminator squad.

Well it's a 10", reduced ap culverin, but ya the archetype is non-existent. There's only tyrants and fulmentaris, and both get rather expensive due to the rockets and fists. Hopefully the volkite will be a 5 point upgrade on the flamers, as they're usually around 10 points themselves. 250 for 5 volkites would be a nice number and possibly a little underpowered, while nowhere near crimson paladin level.
I think some group created rules a unit of heavy destroyers, which were terminator armour-clad destroyers carrying volkites and or heavy flamers. Not sure if they could carry other heavy weapons as I never looked for the rules, but I saw some people on social media showing pics of the models and they looked ace.

Yeah, for me Raptors don't really have to be better, maaaaybe slap Fear on them, dunno, it seems only reasonable. But price with upgrades is devastating for such a unit, especially when you compare them to absolute bonkers like Dawnbreakers.

I could even live with their current price tag, though 150+20 for extra members is quite a lot for 'only' Ws5 and better, yet unreliable charge buff, but buying upgraded weapons, especially Chainglaives, on a 1 attack marine for the whole 10pts is sickening.

It could be interesting to make Chainglaives 5pts and power weapons remain at 10pts, as power sword with second CCW will always be way better (or at least equal against high T) on a 1 attack model (albeit Glaive has rending); especially if you trigger Talent for Murder. It would be a nice incentive to buy them in bulk thus making this unit really high risk (quite a large price for only regular defences and relatively weak melee every turn after the charge) but high reward (up to 4 WS5 S5 AP3 Rending+likely Talent for Murder attacks each on charge).

The biggest issue with raptors is being priced around the old assault marine squad when they were one of the most overpriced squads in the entire game. Back in those days raptors ended up being CHEAPER than assault squads.

Hopefully they get costed better in the new update.
