I have a game against Eldar soon, and I'm expecting the list to be something like -

2 Farseer Skyrunners

10 Warlock Skyrunners

3x5 Dire Avengers

2x5 Shining Spears

3 Wasp Assault Walkers

2 Wave Serpents

I havent played against Eldar since 2nd edition!

Can anyone summarise roughly what this list does that is scary, and what it is weak against, or best ways to counter.

At this point my plan is to simply play the mission and try to survive!

My list -

Canoness

Celestine

Triumph

5x5 BSS

Preacher

2 Imagifier

9 Repentia

9 Celestian

10 Zephyrim

2x5 Seraphim

1 Exorcist

Exorcists and sanctum are the first things I'll suggest. Since I play both armies that's my first suggestions. Honestly a pure sisters force can stand pretty good against them. It's actually nice in the fact that a standard sister build can actually handle most armies imho. Attaching an inquisitor is a great thing to help against the pychers.

As for your list, for me I run BSS 10 strong. Helps with survivability. I also run at least 2 exorcists, it's the hammer for the army. I'm not much on running so many HQ. I choose 2 and use the rest of the points to flesh out my army.

Hope this helps.

Anti Psyker stuff will be really important, Eldar armies live and die by their psychic support. As mentioned already bringing an inquisitor can help with that, as can the sacred rights +3 to denials and don’t forget about condemnor boltguns. Oh yeah and exorcists, obviously.

As others have said, that Eldar list will be almost entirely dependent on Psychic powers. So your best weapons against it will be the Psychic Denial stratagem, the +3 to deny sacred right, and a Null Rod Cannoness. An Inquisitor is also a good idea, although that means you can't use the anti psycher secondary objective, which is a pretty easy 12 points against this list since he'll need the psychers in the thick of it to win.

Some other anti-psychic things you can look at are the Brazier of Eternal Flame, the Pure of Will warlord trait, which the Triumph come with, or condemner boltguns as cheap Superior upgrades.

Really, all of his list is hinged on the 3 large melee units being buffed and charging things. If you can stop those buffs, you can weather the first charge and kill almost all of it in the counter attack. Eldar without buffs are suprisingly squishy.
