I have: 1x Old Start Collecting Box 3x Skitarii Boxes 2x Dominius 1x Cawl 2x Onagers 1x Skitarii Peltasts(10 models) 1x Datasmith I was wondering how I should build and equip the skitarii, and if running Mars is a good choice since I have Cawl. Also what would some smart next purchases be? Black Knight Posted September 12, 2020 Share Posted September 12, 2020 (edited) Mars is by the far the best Forgeworld to learn by, there are plenty of more interesting ones but Mars is a good start if you want to use Cawl. You will probably shift to the others as you develop your favourite playstyle. Until we see the codex we can only go off what we have now but with four sets of Skitarii(3+starting) I would probably do two groups of each, build the plasma in the boxes as Vanguard and the Long gun as Rangers. This will give you the option of a couple of back line sniper teams that hold on to places of interest and a few vanguard to push up with the plasma and burn things. I would leave the Peltasts on the bench until you need them, they are a very specific tool. If you have three Onagers(2+starter) then that's a good start for anti-tank so you don't need to run out and buy our sub tank, only when you want to. The Onager has the parts to have both the Neutron Laser and the Icarus Array built, either to magnetise or blu tack on. The other load outs are just not worth it but again no idea what the new year will bring with the codex. Also add the stubbers, they usually finish stuff off enough that they are worth it. Its weird to have a Datasmith without the Robots but with all the stuff you have here the three things I would say are worth your interest are DakkaBots(Kastellan Robots, fantastic horde and light armour killers, area denial) and a transport or two(Dunerider). Lastly our Ironstriders have been given a good buff and having a few are great but a warning, they are a right pain to build and costly in money to have more than one. For Mars the Autocannons are the premium choice with the +1 strength. All other units are a little harder to quantify as its either completely new(Lots of new fast attack) that their is no consensus on how to use them or older staples which fall short and/or are need to be micromanaged a lot to work. I would go for the three model sets above, then once you've played a few games with all that you, will probably know what you are missing and then buy more of the new stuff to fill your armies weaknesses.
