Hi Guys!

I'm brand new to this so please excuse silly questions!

With that out of the way;

As I understand it, I can field 9 Leman Russ and a Tank Commander for 103 Power by spending 3 command points for a spearhead formation.

I also understand that every model in your army contests/controls an objective but that some do it better. Tanks not being one of them.

I also understand that you can't win by default by wiping out your opponent.  I think this is new from back in the day? I last played in 4th and it was either implicit or explicit that if your opponent had no models on the board then you won.

My final understanding is that Power Level means 'competitive but not tournament' so a few power points here and there are fine and 103 PL would fall into the 100PL bracket without too much fuss for a themed army...?

Crusade has made me think of this. I like the idea of a Tank Squadron leader bullying or inspiring his or her way to company commander during a campaign.

I'm not a competitive player, but I'd like to win sometimes!

If you can tell me a way to run it in matched play I'll be surprised! But at the very least can it be run in crusade without losing every game because you only have 10 models?

You're correct on the army setup. 100PL is more in the 2k point range though. 10 Leman Russes, with one of them a Tank Commander are going to cost you about 1800p without a lot of upgrades.

You win games by scoring points. A lot of it in the current ruleset is about board control. Leman Russes can do it, they get a bonus in a spearhead, but they will not be good at it. You're biggest threat with that many tanks is getting charged, as you have very limited shooting options once that happens.

If you want to run a full armoured company you probably want to include aome lighter tanks or walkers to fill that gap. Sentinels and Hellhounds are fast and can deal decently with infantry with the right setup. Scions as some elite deepstriking infantry can also be a handy supplement to tanks.

Ultimately what'll likely happen is that you dominate some games and get countered hard in others. There's unlikely to be much in between with such an extreme list. Personally, I could find it fun for a game or two but would probably get tired of it quickly after that. ;-)

While PL isn't used for tournaments, the general idea is still to play to a specific points level, because in this case 3 PL is the cost of a few different AM squads or an HQ upgrade. As always check with your opponent first, most are cool, I'm sure they'd love to add an extra 3 PL to their lists too.

I played Tallarn tank company in 8th, it was fun against elite armies but against hordes once they swarmed my tanks, it was game over.

I'd imagine the objective holding and current first turn advantage won't help things much. I haven't played any games of 9th since the pandemic. How's everyone else's Tank/Mechanized Guard doing?

I’ve been playing with a armored company. I‘Ve managed to field 9 Leman Russ tanks. So far it’s been rather interesting. All the points brought up prior to this post rings true however knowing what you should do during the games where your opponents hard counter your lost really helps. Read up on your playlist and watch reports. Best of luck bruv
My 2 cents as well since we're talking powered level, if I'm not mistaken, upgrades are baked into the power level so you're always paying for sponsons so take all of them, with the new flamers coming down the pipe you could use shorter range russes up front with triple hull flamers to screen Edited by duz_

9 tanks plus a commander would be 111 PL with the new power levels they released. If you're doing PL and running all tanks,I'd upgrade as many as possible to TC's. I also agree Scions would be a good choice. Here's what I would do to make it work.

**Spearhead** 100PL

Hq- TC 12PL

Hq- TC 12PL

Troops-scions X10 5PL

Troops-scions X10 5PL

Heavy support-Leman Russ X2 22PL

Heavy support-Leman Russ X2 22PL

Heavy support-Leman Russ X2 22PL

Essentially nobody uses power level in practice, you'll want to look at points.

There's no reason not to take two tank commanders in a spearhead. Fluff wise you'd expect 1 tank commander for every 2-3 regular tanks. They're tank officers not tank regimental commanders.

Spearhead Leman Russ have objective secured but only count as one model. This means that they can hold objectives against everything except troops units and can contest against troops only if the enemy unit is down to a single model.
