tangoalphatwo
Is it just me or is death guard green the hardest paint to paint with? I find I have to thin it down to the point it’s almost a glaze to get a smooth coat, and then it runs everywhere and I have to do like 6 or 7 coats. If not it it is thick and blotchy. I swear this is the only paint that’s like this and it’s been two pots like this too. Anyone else experience this? Special Officer Doofy
I only use it as the base coat / primer from the spray can and it works fine, but that could be and probably is different from the regular paint. Guest
DGG is by far the worst base paint in my opinion, I actually made a post awhile ago about this. I assumed it was a bad pot, until i talked to others and it was everyone thinking it was more like a layer paint. I constantly had issues with it either airbrush or paintbrush. I gave up and started looking for alternative like Death World Forest. Special Officer Doofy
Are you painting small amounts with it or can you undercoat with it? I've only used the regular paint to touch up before shading but I've had some of my best painting with it from a spray can as the base coat. mooftak, N1SB and Dr_Ruminahui 3 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/366522-death-guard-green-paint/#findComment-5602720 Share on other sites
WrathOfTheLion
I've had issues with it as well. Tried basecoating some models from Dark Imperium to start a small Death Guard force, and it isn't working well. Looks like I'm going to have to do like 5 or so coats to get decent coverage. tangoalphatwo 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/366522-death-guard-green-paint/#findComment-5602789 Share on other sites

I typically base coat my Death Guard with Death Guard Green spray when I can. I had a few Blightkings for Warcry I was doing along with Lord Felthius’ cape I undercoated with wraithbone because the dominant color wasn’t green. Painting the plate armor green was a pain in the ass Special Officer Doofy 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/366522-death-guard-green-paint/#findComment-5602826 Share on other sites
barek
Maybe try Vallejo Model Colour 70924 russian uniform ww2. Almost same colour, cheaper and covers fine. Xenith
If it's thin, then maybe use the spray paint followed by a single coat from the pot to get the same finish as the pot paint on models? Chaos Lord Tom
I usually have no issue airbrushing DGG over a primer of Stynilrez grey. I reckon that brushing it may be a pain, several layers a required. McElMcNinja
I have gone to the primer and use the pot paint for touch up/high lighting only. The consistency is very different from the other paints they produce. tangoalphatwo
Maybe try Vallejo Model Colour 70924 russian uniform ww2. Almost same colour, cheaper and covers fine. I just have to say thank you for the recommendation, that color works perfectly!!! It’s just a tad darker, but totally fine in mixed units with some agrax over it. Thank you! barek 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/366522-death-guard-green-paint/#findComment-5604617 Share on other sites

tangoalphatwo
I've been on a warcry kick lately so I hope Blightkings are OK as my Death Guard are primed and in my to paint bin at the moment. from left to right: Spray DGG, DGG over wraithbone, vallejo over wraithbone. and here is the vallejo over DGG spray base. this one shows a little better how close they are in person. also, please ignore the metallics, its the first coat. Closet Skeleton
I haven't had problems with my bottle but I use it as a transition edge highlight over a p3 colour over two thinned coats of rhinox hide. Its the Nurgling Green I use as the final highlight htat keeps drying up on me and seems to have no vallejo equivilant. Bloody Legionnaire
I airbrush mine. Transferred to a dropped bottle. I thin my paint when I transfer it and that resulted in me having a pretty glossy finish so I also added some flat clear/flat base to the dropper. Overall it’s not been that much of an issue for me.
