lansalt
Not a character, but another possible fun unique unit: Nocturne's Hammer, a dedicated rhino transport for Vulkan. https://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Nocturne%27s_Hammer Imagine Vulkan riding in a open top hatch rhino (and only him), with maybe special rules for Armored Breakthrough or something like that. Indefragable
Let's not get too bogged down in the minutae of someone's home-brew rules for characters....or at least put that stuff in [ Hidden ] tags. Frankly there's so many that it could be hard to keep track anyways. Otherwise I think it's cool. @Indefragable and Iansalt, love both those ideas. A Mortificator/Chaplain dread would be too cool. Rann being a character, 2W terminator killing tar pit that needs big guns to take down really fits well.Jumping in on other Legions:Space Wolves: A unique Runepriest and Deathspeaker(?) would be cool. Especially if they can take the Runewatchers in bone armor armor from the books as a unique bodyguard.Blood Angels: Azkaellon is probably too popular not to do, but I wouldn’t mind A siege breaker type, even though it’s counter intuitive. In 1st Edition space marine blood angels were known for being fortress takers and siege fighters believe it or not. A siege breaker terminator would be a pretty cool call back to that.Death Guard: they need a Destroyer character, for sure. A suped up moritat or praetor that unlocks destroyers on foot as compulsory troops. I’d also like to see them get an Armistos type named character with ChemflamerIron Warriors: definitely need Forrix but he needs to shift from tanks and artillery to an elite spearhead of trench raiders. Old lore always mentioned how Iron Warriors would fight like World Eaters or Blood Angels once the walls came down. Azkaellon seems like somewhat of a given, but then again so did the Sanguinary Guard...but from the devs' own mouths to my own ears when I met them at the HH Weekender 2019, the Sang Guard were "boring" so they didn't feel the need to make rules for them at the time <glowers in Baalite>. "Just use Command Squad rules." <grumbles in Baalite> I'm putting the other bits in [ Hidden ] because by my own rules I want this thread to stay somewhat on-topic of Named Characters who Exist but Need Rules instead of "Here's a Neat Idea for a Character Hidden Content Blood Angels: I'd like to see an orbital bombardment specialist. Someone who represents the "opening of the heavens" and provides macro-level suppressive fire for all those jump packs, pods, and gunships screaming down from orbit. Death Guard: for me, the issue is I can't recall a single named character beyond Typhon and the other named characters we already have. So its hard to know how they "should" be though a Destroyer dude seems to fit with them. Iron Warriors: I feel there's design space for them to be a bit more of a shooty force. Yes, they are up to the task of punching just like everyone else (though perhaps not as specialized as other forces), but I'd like to see them have more synergy with their Legion rule of no Morale tests from ranged casualties. Have someone who plays to that by sitting back and whittling the enemy down no matter where he hides before the coup de grace of an insulting assault. I like your idea of a close combat specialist for them, since I tend to like Exceptions-That-Prove-The-Rule for most factions.......except that we don't really have any shooty dudes to really get the representative slice we want. Even just someone who provides Shred and/or Ignores Cover to bolters/special weapons would be very cool for them. In my mind, IW are sort of the Ignores Cover faction. Sothalor
I'd like to see Bel Sepatus for the Blood Angels. One, he's got the coolest title. I mean, "Captain-Paladin of the Keruvim Host," hell yeah. Two, I love the concept of the Crimson Paladins. The anvil to the Angels' hammer. Like, take that awesome-tacular passage of Camba Diaz's stand before the line in Saturnine. That's their day job. Alas, the rules for them are this weird schizo mash, but that's another topic. Sepatus could maybe ameliorate that with his particular rules, but I'm not really a fan of the using specific character rules to improve a subpar unit to a passable level. lansalt
Another one from the great Death Guard novel Lords of Silence: Fleet Siegemaster Vorx https://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Vorx A chill master mind commander that leads from behind. He could have some kind of reserve manipulation rules. A mix of Master of Signals and Siegebreaker. Iron Hands Fanatic
It's a bit of an obscure one admittedly, but Saul Lliamson of the Ultramarines' Desert Lions Chapter presents a fun opportunity for a Legion Praevian special character which is pretty unusual - I'll probably end up making him a ruleset & art at some point, but I like the idea of his Battle-Automata providing targeting data for LA: Ultramarines units in the same force, probably by interacting with the Interlocking Tactics rule. lansalt, Sandlemad and Doctor Perils 3 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/366536-community-wishlist-for-official-characters/page/2/#findComment-5603460 Share on other sites
Indefragable
Added Bel Sepatus...good call! I'm going to skip Vorx and Saul Lliamson for now...as far as I can tell their sources are only from 40k (non-HH era) stuff. Kind of like how I personally would not include Talos from the Night Lords trilogy because while he was active during the HH, his "story" as we know it did not happen until deeper into 40k. Malcharion, however... ...any other names we can think of for the X Legion, the Iron Hands? I am struggling mightily to think of anyone who isn't named Meduson, Mor, or killed on Gaardanal. Malcharion, however... ...any other names we can think of for the X Legion, the Iron Hands? I am struggling mightily to think of anyone who isn't named Meduson, Mor, or killed on Gaardanal. It's a bit tricky given that a lot of the higher-ranking Characters were killed at the Dropsite, while most of those we know of afterwards are shown in small Shattered Legions cells operating in a similar manner to Shadrak Meduson, so don't really represent anything we haven't already seen. This is an area where Forge World has more free rein to create interesting characters (and already have), especially if we get a Tallarn focused book and get to see the Xth actually operating in their speciality of armoured warfare. I'd love to see Amadeus DuCaine, given he was a Legion Master, wore artificer MkI armour and had a pretty interesting character but of course he died at Isstvan V (incidentally I'm planning a supplement at some point in the *hand waiving* distant future that's just Characters who died early in the Heresy). One who would be interesting would Crius, as not only was he a member of the Crusader Host, but he later became a revenant marine via the Keys of Hel, so could have an option to 'upgrade' to his revenant form - ideally if we ever get rules for fielding a Revenant Legion force (I'd probably prefer it as an 'Age of Darkness Theme' like the Shattered Legions given that Retribution mentions revenant Cybernetica & tanks during the attack on Xana II) he'd make a perfect counterpart character to be published alongside them. Indefragable
<snip> Amadeus DuCaine! I was struggling to remember his name from the Ferrus Manus novel, but you jogged my memory and it also made me think of Gabriel Santor (Equerry to Ferrus and leader of the Morlocks bodyguard formation of the Gorgon Pattern Terminators). Will also add Crius because we're in desperate need of anyone for the X Legion, though I agree that this is prime white space for FW to step in and come up with some cool dudes. Also, found this illustration of Artellus Numeon, Equerry to Vulkan ....now that would be cool to see: a Plasma Spear! Another thought is for Space Wolves. I feel like its feast or famine with them, we either get so many names they blur together in something like Wolfblade, but then there's not much else about them beyond some watch packs or such. He's also the protagonist of the short story Unification, set in 30k during the siege with flashbacks to the Great Crusade: https://www.reddit.com/r/40kLore/comments/ilaatp/excerpt_unification_a_death_guard_captain_makes_a/ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/366536-community-wishlist-for-official-characters/page/2/#findComment-5603531 Share on other sites

Deadass
I'm surprised noone's mentioned Falkus Kibre for the Sons of Horus! I'm not sure what he could bring to the table that isn't covered by Abaddon or Horus, but he appears all the time and there's still no definitive description of him beyond "he wears terminator armor." Kalus Ekaddon, the commander of the Catulan Reavers would be cool too. Grulgor for the Death Guard might be interesting once the Black Books move on towards the Siege of Terra. He is/used to be the Captain of the 2nd Great Company and became the first daemon prince in what I think is the entire Legiones Astartes. That's pretty huge. I've always been a fan of Warsmith Kroeger. I think he doesn't have a huge following among IVth Legion fans, but I've enjoyed his blunt, uncomplicated personality in Angel Exterminatus and even his crazed, late-heresy self to some extent in The First Wall. Plus, it'd be fun to see what a 'brawler'-type character could do in a shooty legion like the Iron Warriors. I also noticed that the "who we've got"-list is missing a World Eaters character: Apothecary Gahlan Surlak, the Master of the Inductii. Nomadic Thunder
I want perpetuals. Ol persson, John gramaticus and Damon pyrantis (I think that’s how you spell them) I think they could be really characterful and another take on agents with their ducking in and out and around war zones in the novels with cool equipment, traits and their own little missions. Sandlemad
For Space Wolves, I thought Kva Who-Is-Divided was an interesting character. Senior rune priest, has the bone-armoured bodyguard mentioned earlier, a powerful psyker but afflicted with some sort of wasting disease that makes him skeletal and infirm. Very in tune with the warp, tends to mumble and appear distracted, with his peers’ belief being that his being “was shared between the oververse and underverse”. He appears in Wolf King and Wolfsbane. For the WE, possibly Jareg. He was a long-standing “Master Shellsmith” in 'After De’Shea' and the Khârn: Eater of Worlds novella. He seems to have been involved with the development of the Red Butcher terminator restraints as well. Ideologically he wasn’t as gung-ho about Khorne/blood as some other but not a Talos-like lamenter of the past. I think there’s room for some sort of fusion Forgelord/Armistos/Master of Ordnance character there with some sort of rules linking him to the Red Butchers. There’s other interesting WE characters from the Khârn novella: 9th Centurion Dreagher is that backwards-looking old veteran who’s uncomfortable with the direction of the legion (though in that he’s sort of intruding on the conceptual space of Shaban Dharr and Endrydd Harr, for all that he was a traitor), and Ruokh, a former Destroyer sergeant turned Red Butcher, going from embittered to proper berzerker. Sandlemad
Regarding 9th Centurion Dreagher....is he in a 30k book or a 40k book? 30k, he's in the 'After De'Shea' short story but then gets fleshed out further in the Scouring era. He's well-written but not really a hugely significant member of the legion in truth, at least during the heresy. He was close to Khârn, fought during the crusade, at Armatura and Terra, then did become a more pivotal figure at Skalathrax. One of his claims to fame is that he was the one who first said to Angron "Primarch! General!
