Hey Guys

Back at the hobby after about 7 years!.... Starting where I ended with a small contingent of Red Corsairs, a kill team + a few more bits, then we'll see where we go next.... unlikely to ever get played with so not looking at sticking to the rules to much with wargear etc....

Huron incoming, converted him up first, but wanted to get bit of practice in first on the other guys before tackling him, hopefully my take on him will do justice, the GW sculpt bit dated and lacking....

had the Idea for the bits needed for the conversion couple of years now, but held off, but seeing loads of cool models and painting videos on youtube, and most recently the excellent Corsairs over on Ironsleet (and a global pandemic stopping me from going to the pub) pushed me to dip my toes back into the hobby, and I'm really enjoying getting the creative juices flowing again.

hints, tips (Yes Yes bolter barrels, seems didn't save my pin vice from all those years ago, ones on order....;-) ) greatly appreciated.

Good to be back....

** Edit **

Finished painting the man himself last night, as with the others base could still use a bit more work, but I'll tie them all together in one go at the end most likely (or forget about it entirely?) ...........

Pleased with how he turned out, stole the weapons and backpack from the original model, but just gave him a body and head with some more heft to fit better with picture of him have in my head.  Paint wise, pretty pleased how these guys turned out, not as glossy as picture makes out, tried few new things, like the painted damage and using a nice brown black Oil wash and cotten buds (a proper cheat!).  Still more to learn, and without having to paint hundreds for a working army can go where I want.... 3 more guys in this squad to complete, then I'll try something else none power armour related :-)

Hope you like it...

Love the use of the skull and iron halo bit for a helm! Looks really sinister!

Ha, yeah bit of a punt but worked out nicely... these the first models Ive bought in years, and I sold everything worth while from my old bits box, so starting from scratch... had to use every bit of the models... got the Indomitus chaplain off ebay, and think I used most of the model spread out over about 5 of these guys :-)....

Awesome Huron! Is that a Gal Vorbak convention?

Yeah, seeing the size of them really big and imposing, and thought the gribblies if painted like metal would look like his extensive battle damage.  Was a toss up between this body (that had a awkward backwards leg needing to be swapped out) or the running posed one... think either would have worked, the rest bit to corrupted....

Nice paintwork and conversions, each member of the squad looks like a unique individual.

Yeah that's my favourite thing to do, much more of an ideas guy and conversions than painting hundreds of the same model... cheers.

Great Red Corsairs there, Huron really looks like a beast!

How did you do the red?

I also really like the guy with the skull halo head, but I’m just wondering if a bit of extra material could have helped bulk the head out, compared to the other, more standard, PA helmets it looks a little bit smaller. Just a minor nitpick however.

Been working on the last three guys from corsairs squad... Pretty pleased how they turned out... Get proper pics of others tomorrow maybe... (get frustrated with this, may need to buy a cheap lightbox or something, lights in garage not up for it ;-) ) , but pretty proud of this guy, first time trying osl, it's clunky, but it's practice :-)

Cheers

The Red seems to change slightly from model to model ;-) but basically its Khorne red, mixed with a little evil sunz for highlights then with a little white for more highlights... couldn't be chewed with heavy edge highlights so just tried to highlight the tops of armour pieces, using some dappling effects much quicker and looser fits my impatient temperament ;-) ...

I started after the first couple using a wash then, on some its just carroburg crimson, some I used a blue wash in the lower portions and shadows, kinda worked ok... then after battle damage... I use that ultimate cheat a Heavy black/Brown Oil Paint wash rubbed off the top surfaces with a Cotton bud.... (Watching loads of MarcoFrisoniNJM Youtubes and its fault ;-) ) ....

Cheers...

Hey, just found this, really like the dark strong paint jobs! Started checking out MarcoFrisoniNJM's stuff now.

I'm trying to get my Red corsairs to look less cartoonish so your stuff is a big help
