Did Kranon The Relentless Ever Actually Die?

At the end of the Dark Vengeance novella, the Dark Angels librarian sees in the future Kranon dying. It has been pointed out often though that this is a vision and not necessarily a certain future. This seems supported by the participation of the Crimson Slaughter in the latest Black Crusade. I know that the Black Legion used them as some sort of sacrifice, but I'm hazy on the details. I've tried reading through Traitor's Hate to get the details, but it seems like every time I try I never get through it. Can someone tell me if Kranon is ever confirmed as being dead? A summary on what exactly happened would be appreciated too, but my main question is on Kranon.

Kranon survives Traitor's Hate, and he's mentioned in the Vigilus Ablaze book in the section on the Crimson Slaughter.

 

He survives the Black Legion using the Crimson Slaughter as cannon fodder, swears vengeance on them for doing that to him and the Crimson Slaughter, steals a Black Legion Thunderhawk and ditches with it

 

So yes, he's still alive and active as of the "present"

The guys a legend! Great character and great story arc for a “lesser” chapter. I have a Krannon in my BL force with quite a few Crimson Slaughter units too!

I'm strongly of the opinion that each of the major sub factions of the Chaos Space Marines should get a special character. That's normally meant the Legions but then the Red Corsairs have a special character, so why should Kranon become a special character with a new beefed up model?

The thinbloods should wait in line, the main legions require special characters first.

Kranon was already a special character and was capable of going toe to toe with Abbadon once.

He was kind of like a cross between an Exalted Champion and a Lord topped with Fleshmetal Exoskeleton. Crimson Slaughter is the reason I fell to Chaos.

Wait, so Kranon was that powerful? I am probably the number one Crimson Slaughter fan, and I thought he was about equal in power if not a little tougher than Lufght Huron? What is it about him that makes him so powerful? And what do you mean he was once capable of going toe to toe with abby? Can he not anymore?

Don't think it was ever the case he'd win in a fight, but rules wise......he actually didn't have rules. He was a Chaos Lord where the supplement said you represent him with three of the Relics available. That said, I'd still rather have taken that over Abaddon due to how expensive the latter was.
