NiftyVT
I found a solution for my old 6'x4' gaming mat collection and thought that the community might like the idea. I just discovered that https://www.thefoamfactory.com/ has 1/8" neoprene sheets that are 80"x48". I just ordered a sheet (only $21 USD before shipping) and I plan to cut it into 2 sections to divide my old mats. One into an L and another as a single straight piece that I can use to adjust the length of the playing area so I can make the new 44"x30" and 44"x60" board sizes. This preserves my 6'x4' mats for 30k/Titanicus/Zone Mortalis etc while allowing me to still have the new table sizes for 9th. And I can just roll the divider up into the mat when I go play at my FLGS. Once I get the sheet in and cut I will post up some pictures. NiftyVT
Huh. My solution is to just ignore it. I think if I ever went to a place where proper board size mattered, they'd have their own one set up. I thought you've found a battlefoam store but this one sells packaging and furniture foam as far as I can see. What do you use a plain sheet for? Just as my post says. I got a large black sheet of neoprene (which is what the mouse pad battle mats are made of) and I am just going to cut a template out that covers the un needed parts of my actual battle mats. Cheex
Honestly, for my 6x4 mat I'm planning to just use masking tape. Special Officer Doofy
My whole group is still using 6x4 mats, so not an issue for any of us. We prefer it to the new minimum. mel_danes and Interrogator Stobz 2 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/366701-my-6x4-gaming-mat-solution-for-new-table-sizes/#findComment-5607774 Share on other sites
Fajita Fan
I feel like squeezing the playing field was just meant to give mid range ~36" weapons more viability and let things die faster. Xenith
They're minimum table sizes, not absolute so you have to take zero action if you own a 6'x4' mat. Deployment options are measured from the centre of the board, so you could have a 20'x20' board and it wouldn't make a difference. Maybe it would make basilisks relevant. Helias_Tancred
I have a well-painted 6x4 ROBB and a lot of 8th edition terrain well-painted to match. First guy that wants to use his new sized mat when he arrives to play a game in my basement .... never leaves * I'm still proud of my work on that stuff (Eilio_Tiberius on IG for pics ... they're down a bit) Edited October 6, 2020 by Helias Tancred Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/366701-my-6x4-gaming-mat-solution-for-new-table-sizes/#findComment-5612666 Share on other sites
Bat33.1
The 44x66 might be a minimum Xenith but as every major event has switched to this minimum tournament players are going to need to play on this size board. Five turns and a smaller board changes how the game plays in a big way. For those not needing to be ready for an event it makes no real world difference and if I had invested in a 6x4 gaming setup there is no way I would change it at home as the only events I normally attend are AoS which is still 6x4 until GW release 3rd edition. No way will they support 2 table sizes over the 2 main games for longer than they need to and they don't care enough about 30k to even consider that an issue.
