angrom
Since the new model overview we haven't heard of the void dragon. considering that him and the silent king will be two big and expensive models for the army competing with one another for our wallets I think it is safe to assume that the close release will not include the void dragon unfortunately. In that case the rules themselves will not be in the codex but rather in a supplement later when the V9 campaign like psychic awakening will start (probably the void dragon will then emerge on the course of events). Sad really Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/366714-new-codex-and-void-dragon/ Share on other sites
Tyriks
I think there's zero chance he isn't in the codex Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/366714-new-codex-and-void-dragon/#findComment-5607779 Share on other sites
Get Thokt
He'll no doubt be in the codex, but may be released on the second or third wave of the new Necron range. Bonzi
He'll no doubt be in the codex, but may be released on the second or third wave of the new Necron range. Agreed. He will be in the dex but will certainly be in a later wave with the Hexmark, Monolith, Flayer Ones, and new Crypteks. This is going to be a staggered launch along with the Marines. The only question is are we looking at Death Guard 8th Ed launch levels of delay on getting all of our models (that was on the order of several months before they finally got all the units that they had been teased and actually had in their dex. 01RTB01
Sorry angrom but that's just negative speculation. Karhedron
I think that the new Monolith will also be in the same tier both for pricing and effectiveness. I can't see GW rolling out a massive new model (with a price tag to match one presumes) and then leave it languishing with the same poor rules that have left it relegated to the bottom tier for most of 8th edition. Captain Idaho
I'll buy the new C'tan in a heartbeat. Can't wait. I just hope it has stupendous rules. And updated other C'tan rules too. Daimyo-Phaeron Lenoch
Today's WHC Article is quite interesting. The Void dragon has some decent stuff. In melee it'll be incredble at killing vehicles and anything MEQ. (even TEQ with its -4 AP). The matter absorption rule isn't phenomenal, as I can't imagine you're killing vehicles every turn, but it could come in clutch in the later game. What I like the most is the wounds taken per phase rule. Minimum 3 wounds to kill it, and if it regens any wounds at all it'll be able to get that much closer before dying. Plus, character and 9 wounds, which means it keeps the shooting protection. Captain Idaho
Yeah I like the rules for the Void Dragon. Even if he isn't a character, he can use Obscuring Terrain which makes things slightly easier. Great looking model too. Mr4Minutes
I think he is amazing. He’s also getting the powers of C’tan ability, which, even if they remain unchanged, are still a great compliment to his damage output. I’m just hoping he’s not ridiculously over cost points wise. There’s also no way that he would not be included in the new codex. My speculation is that, assuming you only plan on getting one, that the void Dragon is the better purchase. This is assuming the silent king, while not necessarily dynasty locked, will benefit his dynasty more then any other dynasty. Similar to Papa G and Ghaz. Where the Void Dragon will probably be running at full power regardless of the dynasty you’re running. Shas Oh Dear
One of the most interesting things I took from the article is that he doesn't have a special name for his necrodermis rule. All ctan have that rule so only taking 3 damage a turn and maybe even his overall stat line may be the new basics for ctan in general. MithrilForge
I’m liking him... that 3 wounds a turn gives him some staying power and means you won’t lose him in a Single turn ... very helpful, I’d have to say if it’s about money (usually is when I’m buying) that I’ll go for the dragon before the king as I see more use for him straight off the bat in my army .... I’d like to get both but perhaps the king might appear come birthday or Christmas time :-) Mithril Edited September 30, 2020 by mithrilforge Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/366714-new-codex-and-void-dragon/#findComment-5608884 Share on other sites

Karhedron
It's unfortunately 3 wounds a phase, so could be killed in one turn. People say the said the same about ghazghkull when he dropped and he's lethal and gets plenty use... There are some key differences. Firstly Ghazzy is 12 wounds meaning he can be targetted by shooting from T1. The C'tan is 9 Wounds meaning IT can be screened by something cheap and expendable (Scarabs anyone?). Secondly Ghaz has a degrading profile whereas the C'tan does not, it keeps fighting at full effect until it drops. Lastly the C'tan has a mechanism to regain wounds. Granted it is a bit situational but killing even 1 vehicle means it will take a minimum of 4 phases to kill rather than 3. Doing 3 wounds in the Psychic, Shooting and Melee phases on a character who can be screened is often easier said than done. A cheap ablative unit will protect the C'tan from both shooting and Smites. There are some psychic powers that can target any unit but not all armies have access to these so Smite is the most common MW dealer in the psychic phase. The C'tan is also reasonably fast and presumable can still use the Powers of the C'tan in addition to its shooting and melee capabilities. The C'tan is not unkillable but it will be very hard to prevent it crashing into your lines and doing significant damage. And while you are dealing with the Star God rampaging across the battlefield, the silver horde closes inexorably on you... Depending on the points, the Void Dragon may well be a (very powerful) distraction Carnifex. It is something you throw at the enemy knowing they can't ignore it but will also have to expend significant resources to kill it. In contrast, the Silent King looks like a unit you need to build your army around. The Void Dragon just needs a cheap screening unit that can keep up and you point at a big threat (or Objective) and let it do its thing. Shas Oh Dear
Yup yup yup. That nightbringer is so very nice, which is good for me because I just received the one I ordered. Only downside is that running my 3 ctan choices now costs 970 points. Also to answer an earlier question they are a character but specifically don't benefit from look out sir. Mr4Minutes
Goonhammer article got me sufficiently excited. Really looking forward to sinking my teeth into the new dex when it shows up. I only purchased one Doomstalker and one heavy destroyer , but I’ll be expanding that sooner rather than later I think.
