And loved it.  Made a ton of mistakes  in my thirteenth and fourteenth ever games of 40k against some serious regulars, lost 92-37 to AdMech, and 78-67 to AM but actually feel like I made huge gains in just those two games.  The precision of these guys on movement, angles, ranges, thinking through the stacks of effects.....it was a blast.  I even caught my second opponent off guard a few times (fun when your opponent says mid way through a turn, "I think I misplayed that there," a couple of times - small victories!).

Seriously, loving the competitive side of this game.

Even got compliments on the list after the matches, when they helped walk me through some of my decisions and considerations.  The first match, I simply didn't understand enough about terrain impact to the table and essentially gave my opponent unintended clear lanes of fire for his admech.  In the second game, I was painfully reminded of another terrain issue in that he was willfully touching forests to negate their impact to hit rolls by being in the terrain piece (another thing I honestly didn't know).  Dude ALWAYS had movement committed to eating the 2" so he could do that and it showed up huge for him in the match.  Was just glad to keep it close.

Btw, this is the list that my casual game experimentation refinements finally ended up on the table for this small tournament:

Smash Captain

Primaris Chappy with relic

Primaris LT

Culexes (or Vindicare if I want to swap it for 2CP)

Infiltrators

Intercessors x 3 squads with TH

Intercessors x 1 squad with AGL

BG Vets

Servitors

2x Relic Javelin Attack Speeders (HKM, TLC, MMelta)

6xInceptors

Eradicators x 3 squads

Glad to hear you had fun. Tournaments can be a great way to get a couple of games into one day, and see players/armies outside of your local circle - but there's always the risk of running into That Guy. You know, the guy who absolutely needs to win at all costs, instead of having fun while staying competitive. And regular tournament players often know the rules in better detail than occasional beer-and-prezels gamers - you know people are not up to speed when they try to use Infiltrate rules from 4th edition but you're already well into 7th.

As a side question, what (roughly) did the AdMech guy bring? AdMech had quite a bit of an overhaul recently, I'd be interested in what people bring these days, and what works well in this edition.

Alcyon, I'll give you a batrep here in a day or two on the second match (the first I simply lost right at terrain placement to be honest).

Definitely some great learning moments though.

My first ever torniment i went 0-3 but got the highest sportsman score at the event.

Its fun just to play in a competitive environment amd give it your best go.

Fun is the best reward, glad to hear your pumped for more.
