So I started my necrons when I heard about the indomitus release and before that necrons didn't really interest me generally speaking they were a very low tier army with a few incredibly boring viable builds. The main thing that swayed me was the ctan (and to a lesser extent the absolute bargain of indomitus). Now with the new scary ctan I'm definitely aiming to run 3. Below is the current list I'm thinking about, currently the detachments are nephrek but I am torn between that and the scary custom dynasty with obsec and free 6" move.

++ Patrol Detachment -2CP (Necrons) [30 PL, -2CP, 595pts] ++

+ Configuration +

Detachment CP [-2CP]

Dynasty Choice

. Dynasty: Nephrekh

+ HQ +

Skorpekh Lord [7 PL, 130pts]

+ Troops +

Immortals [4 PL, 90pts]: 5x Immortal, Tesla Carbine

+ Elites +

C'tan Shard of the Nightbringer [9 PL, 165pts]: Power of the C'tan: Transdimensional Thunderbolt

Skorpekh Destroyers [6 PL, 120pts]: Skorpekh Destroyer (Reap-Blade)

. 2x Skorpekh Destroyer (Thresher): 2x Hyperphase Threshers

+ Fast Attack +

Canoptek Scarab Swarms (Indomitus) [2 PL, 45pts]

. 3x Scarab Swarms (Indomitus): 3x Feeder Mandibles (Indomitus)

Canoptek Scarab Swarms (Indomitus) [2 PL, 45pts]

. 3x Scarab Swarms (Indomitus): 3x Feeder Mandibles (Indomitus)

++ Patrol Detachment 0CP (Necrons) [42 PL, 800pts] ++

+ Configuration +

Detachment CP

Dynasty Choice

. Dynasty: Nephrekh

+ HQ +

Overlord (Indomitus) [5 PL, 90pts]: Artefact: The Veil of Darkness, Warlord, Warlord Trait (Codex 4): Thrall of the Silent King

+ Troops +

Necron Warriors (Indomitus) [6 PL, 120pts]

. 10x Necron Warrior (Gauss Reaper): 10x Gauss Reaper

Necron Warriors (Indomitus) [6 PL, 120pts]

. 10x Necron Warrior (Gauss Reaper): 10x Gauss Reaper

+ Fast Attack +

Canoptek Wraiths [8 PL, 135pts]

. 3x Canoptek Wraith: 3x Vicious Claws

+ Heavy Support +

Transcendent C'tan [10 PL, 195pts]: Fractured Personality: Cosmic Tyrant, Power of the C'tan: Antimatter Meteor, Power of the C'tan: Sky of Falling Stars

+ Dedicated Transport +

Ghost Ark [7 PL, 140pts]

++ Auxiliary Support Detachment -2CP (Necrons) [10 PL, 10CP, 190pts] ++

+ Configuration +

Detachment CP [-2CP]

Dynasty Choice

. Dynasty: Nephrekh

+ Elites +

C'tan Shard of the Deceiver [10 PL, 190pts]: Power of the C'tan: Time's Arrow

++ Total: [82 PL, 8CP, 1,585pts] ++

So the ctan are obviously the big deal here, they eat a tonne of points but they all get two powers a turn and the powers all have the potential to do some serious mortal wounds. The rest of the army is there to provide various forms board control. Skorpekh destroyers as a push threat. Wraiths and scarabs to annoy. The ghost ark for blocking and warriors to blob up and chip damage. I don't know the unit cost of the immortals, the lord or the scarabs so I may have spare points or less points which may change things slightly. I would appreciate any thoughts on changes or tactical considerations I should take on board for using this list to its fullest.

Edit: this is a 2000pts list btw, with new codex I would estimate this as being around the 2000 on the nose mark.

I got my codex yesterday and this list is exactly 1990 points which is pretty much where I thought it'd be. No idea what to do with 10 points though.

I could swap the tachyon arrow and glaive for a staff of light and take the voltaic staff. That would give me another 5pts which I could use to stick a plasmacyte in for the skorpekhs.

  • 2 weeks later...

So I had a couple of games using a slightly altered version of this list which looked like this:

SAUTEKH PATROL:

HQ:

Imotekh the stormlord; WT: hyperlogical stratergist - 145 (+2CP)

TROOPS:

Warriors w/ Reapers - 130

Warriors w/ Reapers - 130

ELITES:

Skorpekhs - 105

Nightbringer; Gaze of death, Cosmic fire - 350

TRANSPORT:

Ghost ark - 145

SAUTEKH PATROL (-2CP):

HQ:

Skorpekh Lord; EXTRA WT: Enduring will, Relic: Veil of Darkness - 130 (-1CP)

TROOPS:

Immortals w/Tesla - 95

ELITES:

Deceiver; Cosmic Insanity, Antimatter Meteor - 350

FAST ATTACK:

Scarabs - 45

Wraiths - 105

AUXILIARY DETACHMENT (-2CP):

ELITES:

Transcendent; Transdimentional Thunderbolt, Sky of falling stars - 270

TOTAL: 2000 (9CP)

I used this against my friends fairly meta death guard list; roughly 3 plagueburst crawlers with an iron clot demon prince and the reroll wound warlord trait, a bunch of plague marines in a drill with the grenade guy. 3 units of nurglings and some termies.

The game started out rough for me just trying to hunker down and weather the shooting that came my way while I chipped away at various units with c'tan powers. Once the c'tan made it into combat and just steam rolled his army. It ended a close 63-62 but it would have been more if I'd not been lazy with my positioning on the 4th turn.

I'm now thinking about running this:

Mixed patrol

Plasmancer(sautekh), prismatic obfuscation, vanquishers mask 90

Troops

Immortals(nephrekh) 85

Elites

Nightbringer - 350

Fast

Scarabs(Szarekhan) - 45

Wraiths(novokh) - 105

Sautekh

Hq

Imotekh warlord hyperlogical strategist - 145

Troops

Warriors - 130

Elites

Deceiver - 350

Cryptothralls - 40

Heavy support

DDA - 190

DDA - 190

AUX

Elites

Transcendent c'tan- 270

10cp
