Hi all,

Was looking through the codex previews and got a bit curious about the new drop pod rules

One interesting thing is that neither the drop pod, or its contents, count against the reinforcement limit. So you save CP there i guess.

But the thing that struck me is that it doesn't no mention the need to set up the Drop Pod more than 9 inches away from enemy models.

The disembarked models are clearly called out to have to be set up more than 9", but not the drop pod itself.

I'm not sure what to think about this. If it means that drop pods are exempt from the 9" rule that would be a nice bonus - not grounbreaking but nice

Especially as there is still confusion about about whether the doors of the pod count or not

Am I missing anything obvious here? I haven't played any 9th due to the pandemic really so I could be way off the mark due to some core rule.

Thoughts?

cheers

One other thing, I think you are confusing reinforcements with strategic reserves.

Strategic reserves is the new rule that allows you to keep units off the table that wouldn't be able to do so otherwise, and bring them on from the edge of the table later in the game, with where they can be deployed growing everyturn.  Using this rule costs CP.

Reinforcements is a broader term that includes strategic reserves as well as units that have their own rules for starting off the table, such as terminators and drop pods.  Unless they use the strategic reserves rules or otherwise cost CP to get the rule that allows them to become reinforcements (for example, chaos demons who have to use a stratagem to "deepstrike"), these units don't require CP to use as reinforcements.  Reinforcements are subject to a limitations at that at least 50% of your army must start on the table.

So the "not counting towards the reinforcement limit" doesn't affect CP (as the pod never required CP to come on later in the game, as it doesn't use the strategic reserves rules), but instead allows you to start with more than 50% of your army off the table at the beginning of the game.
