Kelborn
Hihihihihi.... Best news for me in a while. Even better than Reverie. So excited. Though I'm hoping for a continuation of his previous two, I'm kinda hoping for something entirely new. Maybe in the new era. Bobss
I'm really looking forward to this. Massive kudos to both Chris Wraight and the Black Library for actually finishing this series off, or at least giving us another instalment. This is a massive blast from the past because Blood of Asaheim was written in a time when Chris Wraight was only really known for his Wolves, in 40k that is. Fastforward a decade and he is also Primarch of the Fifth Legion, Captain-General of the Custodes, an Inquisitor of the Ordo Hereticus and a respected old-timer in the Fourteenth Legion - among many, many other things. Wonderful news! Elephant in the room: where does this leave him and his Siege of Terra entry, though? A lot of folk, myself included, believe he is penning book six. So... DukeLeto69
@Bobss novels are normally finished at least 6 months before they are published. With Covid impacts I suspect this Wraight Wolves novel was written/finished around nine months ago. Based on that (and all his other releases) I would guess that Wraight is writing SoT now or it could even be finished! b1soul
I recall there were a few minor complaints about Blood of Asaheim and Stormcaller...like Wraight was a bit off with some of the SW terminology or chapter structure, but beyond that I'm assuming these books were his typical high quality? Any highs or lows? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/366883-helwinters-gate-new-space-wolf-novel-announced/#findComment-5614083 Share on other sites
Kelborn
Blood of Asaheim was "funnier" and more cinematic for me. Stormcaller had a better DG antagonist and flair to it due to the Space Hulk they're fighting on while the DG forces were a faceless mass with one named champion at the very end. Enjoyed both of them as Wraight pretty much nails Wolves for me. That's mostly because of Battle of the Fang, which is still one of the best Wolves novels (along with Ragnar and Lukas) ever written, imho. cheywood
https://www.warhammer-community.com/blacklibrarycomingsoon/ Based on the coming soon page we know a little bit about the plot: ‘As the Imperium crumbles around them and darkness descends, the Space Wolves of Jarnhamar pack seek vengeance for old wrongs - whatever the cost.’ Clearly involves the rift opening, which sounds fantastic to me. Having just finished Lords of Silence I’m very interested in Wraight writing more about the onset of the Rift. He captures it well. Edit: How’s everyone else feel about this? Knockagh
Blood of Asaheim was I think a poor offering from Chris which is unusual. I didn’t even read stormcaller as I disliked it so much. But I loved Battle of the Fang and I dislike battle books, it was brilliant. Wonder do I need to read stormcaller before reading this? You're probably going to have to read it, a lot of time and story has happened. I once asked Chris if he was going to do book 3 and said that he would have to see where they fit in the current story of the imperium, so you really should check out what they've been doing since then cheywood 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/366883-helwinters-gate-new-space-wolf-novel-announced/#findComment-5614521 Share on other sites

They’re direct sequels. You would likely be extremely lost without Stormcaller. I liked Blood of Asaheim, but I thought Stormcaller was the better of the two. However, Wraight’s writing the past few years has been better still. b1soul
@ Knockagh What were your primary disappointments with Blood of Asaheim? @ RedFurioso I wonder if COVID has a positive or negative impact on book/e-book sales? Netflix has actually been benefited by all these people cooped up at home...on the subscription side: https://www.bbc.com/news/business-52376022 On the production side, they're experiencing delays. Has this really been bad for BL? I don't think it badlly affects BL "production", but with more people stuck at home, many might want to read a book Edited October 9, 2020 by b1soul RedFurioso 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/366883-helwinters-gate-new-space-wolf-novel-announced/#findComment-5614631 Share on other sites
Knockagh
I liked the old space wolves under King and I found BoA very dry in comparison. It’s been a while since I read it but I remember it having a great start and then I struggled to finish it. The action sequences were predictable and repetitive. I nearly feel guilty having a go at anything Wraight does, I usually gush over his work. Some books when opening a trilogy can be pretty dry and then pick up in the next. I found the Horusian books did that. Anyway a copy of stormcaller isn’t being sold anywhere so I’ve lost the opportunity to catch up. RedFurioso
Has this really been bad for BL? I don't think it badlly affects BL "production", but with more people stuck at home, many might want to read a book It delays releases. Limited edition of Darkness in the Blood was released last November, regular edition coming next month. One year has passed since the limited ed. release... This never happened before. Astorath: Angel of Mercy was delayed for 7 months – "it was originally due to come out in March, before the global pandemic got in the way". Fury of Magnus was delayed for a month. b1soul
I'm guessing BL makes most of its money through paper books (hardbacks, limited editions, TPBs) and the supply chain for those has been more heavily impacted by the pandemic. Malkydel
I’m interested in this limited edition, but as someone who has never partaken in the release day madness, can someone give advice on how the best way to get one would be? Like what site, what time, should I have payment method and stuff set up beforehand? Suppose I’ll have to sacrifice a cat or something the day before too... Be online and logged into the GW site at least 15 minutes before the hour, make sure you've entered all your payment details beforehand. Go to the Black Library section. Select "Pre-Orders". Hit refresh repeatedly; it's usually up about 5 minutes early. Hit the pre-order button and then straight to Checkout. byrd9999 and cheywood 2 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/366883-helwinters-gate-new-space-wolf-novel-announced/#findComment-5641019 Share on other sites
