Now that the new Book is out, what combos are you most excited about trying out now?

Here are some that I am looking forward to trying:

1 - Dark Angel Centurions with Azrael and Master Apothecary support

2 - White Scar Vanguard Veterans (JP, Storm Shield, Lightning Claw load out) with Biker Chaplain support

3 - Space Wolf Bladeguard Veterans (better known as Wolf Guard) alongside Ragnar in an Impulsor

4 - Iron Hands TH/SS Terminators supported by a Librarian with the Rites of War WL Trait (i.e. the Librarian can give them Psysteel Armour) with a 0+ armor / 4++ Invul save, 3W each, 6+++ FNP (can use a Strat to bring them up to a 5+++ FNP)... add in Objective Secured from the WL Trait and they make one of the toughest Objective grabbers/holders in the game.

What is everyone else looking forward to trying?

Thanks for starting this thread, Brother Leonidas, I've been wondering about this too.  I've been thinking about Terminators specifically as well, and I was talking to my tourney friend about it, who gave a variation to this:

4 - Iron Hands TH/SS Terminators supported by a Librarian with the Rites of War WL Trait (i.e. the Librarian can give them Psysteel Armour) with a 0+ armor / 4++ Invul save, 3W each, 6+++ FNP (can use a Strat to bring them up to a 5+++ FNP)... add in Objective Secured from the WL Trait and they make one of the toughest Objective grabbers/holders in the game.

Although he himself plays Iron Hands now, he also had an alternate take on the issue of Terminators: Dark Angels' Deathwing.

It's a variation of what you've said (we didn't talk about the Librarian, though) and the idea is, instead of the 6+++ FNP, they have the Inner Circle rule where they can only be Wounded on a 4+.  The trade-off is it's less good against small arms fire, but it's better against Special/Heavy Weapons that would normally be anti-TEQ weapons with both high Strength and high AP.

I'm a Shattered Xth veteran myself, but suddenly I'm thinking maybe the 1st Legion had the right idea, Deathwing Assault Hammernators.

Then we look at this edition's Grim Resolve.  I don't know if it intended, but what seemed to be a buff meant for stationary shooting applies to Hammernators after the turn they charge or were charged...because they're no longer moving.  Suddenly we see the dueling skills the 1st were famed for, but with Thunder Hammers.

And thanks for the heads up about the Stratagems, I hadn't considered that yet.  But you make the case more and more compelling.

After spending a couple of months burning loads of cp to outflank aggressors, or just shoving them in the mid board and getting rsi when ultramarines tactical doctrine kicked in...

I'm excited about running that biker chaplain with some outriders in a white scars list. The whole package just works for me and its worth the 410 points for a smash character who can damage spike or give full combat rerolls to models with 6 attacks on the charge

Equally excited about plasmaceptors and khan on bike. Charge->fall back->shoot->charge for 1CP and the new Hammer of Wrath makes them super fun

10 Assault Terminators with a Chief Apothecary and a Terminator Master of Sanctity with Litany of Divine Protection and either Fires of Devotion and Fervent Acclamation. Maybe with the Cenobyte Servitors.

That's 30 wounds with a 1+, a 4++, 5+++/6+++ shrug and a 4+++ on MWs, with two heals and one free revival per turn.

Chaplain with Jump Pack, Exhortation of Rage and Vanguard with Jump Packs. Then Terminators drop in and we use Master Oratory to boost them with Canticle of Hate so they can get the charge as they teleport in next to the Chaplain.

That's my choice.

Some of the more powerful combos have gone but it looks live several things we get are more reliable now. Apothecary healing is now automatic (and free if you take the upgrade). Commanding Oratory to ensure you get that crucial Litany off (and outside your command phase) is also very nice.

It is definitely looking like they are getting closer to getting Marines to play like a combined arms force. I will miss Captain Smash but I magnetised those arms for a reason. :biggrin.:

I am trying (not entirely successfully) not to get my hopes up on that one. It is not the first time we have been promised access to the Stormraven only to end up disappointed.

But all that stabby death.....

Blood Ravens taking Scars Chapter tactic but being descended from Raven Guard or something else now that the faq changing them to use Successors is gone.

wait, what?

So in the white dwarf article, it tells you to either use the Blood Ravens CT or to choose another CT. This choosing of CT doesn't lock you into using the same first founder like Inheritors does. The FAQ that eventually rolled around for the 8.5 book said to disregard the CT stuff in the white dwarf and to use the Successor Chapter rules in the codex, but that faq is now invalid. So unless the new book has that caveat included, you can mix and match.

Now while I think it's a horribly broken and unintentional combo, I at least get to feel that their cashgrab white dwarf article has some value and at least causes problems for them.
