Brothers and Friends, please let me know about the following if you own the new 9th edition SM Codex:

1. Is there additional new lore

a. specifically does the new space marines codex provide a continuation of Guilliman's battle with Mortarian's forces after the Vengeance campaigns written about on Lexicanum:

i. do we know any latest details about what the Ultramarines and Gulliman are upto in regards the Dark Imperium story line?

b. Is there new lore concerning the aftermath of Vigilus: what Abaddon is doing currently in regards his fight against specific chapters of Space Marines?

2. I ordered the new SM codex specifically to get new lore information about the above. I ordered it from my local GW store to be delivered to my home address in Canada. If you provide me information about the above and I do not open the package, will I be able to return it to get a refund?

3. If the new Space Marines 9th edition codex does not contain any new information about the points mentioned under 1., I intend to refund the codex without opening the package and buying the future Death Guard Codex instead. My only intention to buy the new 9th edition SM codex is to get access to new lore concerning point number 1.

Please help me by providing information. I will be very grateful  :)

Honestly, if you really only bought it for the lore, you are probably best served (if you can use the money) returning it and waiting anyway... at some point any new lore is going to show up somewhere.

Unfortunately I can't help you with the new lore, as I am waiting at least until the Wolf supplement I said announced for release.

Dear Brothers and Friends:

The latest from the lexicanum entries from 8th edition list the following as the most recent campaign:

https://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Vengeance_Campaigns#:~:text=The%20Vengeance%20Campaigns%20were%20a,from%20the%20Realm%20of%20Ultramar.

Also in Marneus Calgar's entry on the lexicanum, the last line is: "He was not seen on the front line of the battlefield from that point on, but continued to command the armies of the Imperium from the heart of the Vigilus Senate."  [this concerns the Vigilus campaign]

So, after the Indomitus Crusade, came the Plague Wars, followed by the Vengeance campaign [in which only Marneus Calgar participated not Guilliman]

A quote from the plague wars Lexicanum page [https://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Plague_Wars] is:

"It was not long before new crusades called the Lord Commander of the Imperium away from Ultramar and back out into the galaxy."

So, after the plague wars does the 9th edition Space Marines Codex indicate what exactly the new crusades are and what is Lord Commander Guilliman's current whereabouts or what he is involved in?

I only want to know if the specifics of Guilliman's current engagements have been updated in the new codex. Please let me know....whoever has read this part of the new codex.

Pretty sure the Indomitus Crusade was prior to the Plague Wars. My understanding is that 9th is still doing the "fill in" thing with the Indomitus Crusade period, hasn't advanced "past" Vigilus, however it's really hard to tell now that the individual timelines are set only in relation to the system they are in, not the wider galaxy.

They mention the Vengeance Campaign as occurring after the Plague Wars however, according to what was said above.

So they are starting to fill in some after as well, although not in much detail.

The note about the Vengeance Campaign came from the 8th Edition Marine Codex, page 29, per Lexicanum's entry - it's not new lore, so not "starting to fill in."

Because Deathwatch is a supplement now, I will actually have to buy the SM codex. I think it will be the first SM dex I've ever purchased, and I've been playing since '89.

I have the 8th Deathwatch and Grey Knights, but I consider those Chambers Militant of the Inquisition, not marines. I know GW hasn't seen it that way for many years now, but I say the Inquisition is forever.

Funny thing is, I think I might actually appreciate the marine dex.

I think the largest lore "additions" are the battlezone descriptions and short stories. It seems like the writers were quadrupling down on Space Marines as super-soldiers and how much a small number of them can achieve. A few companies versus millions of tyranids, some marines taking down a titan, etc. The other bits spread throughout are a refresher on the idiosyncrasies of chapters as insular, superstitious, bands of brothers with thousands of years of odd traditions. Vehicles are sworn in as battle-brothers, marines will carry around heads of dead battle-brothers so they can see a mission fulfilled, etc. None of this is really new, but it was less stressed in the 8th edition codex(s).
