BolterZorro
Hi, I just got my new primaris apothicary. I see that he can be assembled with a choice of 2 main weapons. What is the best one for him? While we are at it, how to play him? (relic/strat/additions...) Is the chapter master option interesting? Maybe this thread can be interesting for people also wanting to test the OP combo with "revive ATV" Edited October 14, 2020 by BolterZorro Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/367036-apothecary-best-loadout/ Share on other sites
WrathOfTheLion
If it's the Primaris one, I think it doesn't matter, as he comes with both pistols on his datasheet. You can see he has two pistol holsters with just one drawn, so it's just a cosmetic option. With a bike will be best though . The Ravenwing Apothecary will be the most natural vector to do any weird stuff with reviving the ATV, as he can keep up. BolterZorro
Yes, I edited my post: I'm speaking about the primaris one. I didn't see that he's equipped with both pistols. How can one use them? Both are Pistol 1. In shooting phase, do I have a shot for each pistol or do I have to choose and shoot only one of them? And in combat phase, how does it work as the Apo has 4 attacks? PS: my army is primaris only. I know that it hurts not having the choice of mounting options for primaris (primaris apo on bike, primaris khan on bike, primaris captain on bike etc...) 9x19 Parabellum
He can use either pistol depending on the circumstances. One has longer range, but worse total damage output, I believe. The other is VERY Short range (3" if memory serves), but does a lot more AP and damage. He has no melee weapon options, so yes, it's just 4 or 5 basic attacks with no AP or extra damage. (He basically just whacks his foes in the head with the handle of his pistol, or punches them in the face using judo). WrathOfTheLion
The Primaris vs Firstborn doesn't really do much to hinder your options with bikes, the only thing you lose is the Captain on bike, so that is a wash as they don't have Chaplain on bike. Apothecary, Champion and Ancient on bike are all scoped as chapter-specific, so aren't a choice that primaris/not really matters on. Closet Skeleton
A model with pistols can fire either all their pistols, all their assault/rapid fire/heavy weapons, or throw a grenade instead. So the apothecary can fire both pistols in the shooting phase just like other multi-pistol wielding units like SoB Seraphim and the Genestealer Hybrid Kelermorph. Since one of the pistols is really short range the apothecary is usually limited to just the longer range one, but once both guns are in range he can fire both at the same time and split targets if he wants to. If he's in melee he has to fire both at a target within 1" of him during the shooting phase, the pistols do nothing in the fight phase. The absolver has a worse profile than a krak grenade so if he's over 3" but under 6" from his enemy he probably wants to throw a krak or frag genade instead but if he's within 3" the two pistols is probably better than the single grenade despite them having the same max damage. Karhedron
With a bike will be best though . The Ravenwing Apothecary will be the most natural vector to do any weird stuff with reviving the ATV, as he can keep up. Agreed. Although the Blood Angel Sanguinary Priest with Jump Pack is a decent second place. Only downside is using an HQ slot rather than an Elite. Although the Blood Angel Sanguinary Priest with Jump Pack is a decent second place. Only downside is using an HQ slot rather than an Elite. The Ravenwing apothecary can be part of a command squad, along with the RW Champion and the ancient, added onto a Ravenwing black knight squad. So if already taking black knights, the RW apothecary will take no slots. RW Black Knights are now an elite though, instead of a FA. I think they are still quite more appealing than Outriders though, so adding on parts of the command squad is something you'll see a lot. The sang priest with jump pack is definitely a better choice than nothing though. Unless the apothecary can keep up with the ATVs/bikes, it'll be more situational than it seems at first on paper. The Sanguinary priest is base 90, with 30 points added to get the jump pack for 120 points. The RW apothecary is only 100, so as the cheaper option as well, I think it stands quite far out in first for this. This does make sense though, as following/healing bikers is its primary job, whilst the Sanguinary Priest with JP is being situationally tooled to do so. Dracos
Obviously the best Apothecaries are Raven Guard with Master of Ambush and melee unit of your choice. Astartes need a true Phobos Apothecary though ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/367036-apothecary-best-loadout/#findComment-5617600 Share on other sites
