Captain Idaho
Been thinking on this for a few days... Annihilation Barges are very offensive anti-infantry, especially with a Tesla Cannon alongside the Destructors. 13 shots are nothing to be sniffed at, especially when each 6 rolled for to hit rolls nets you another 2 hits. Quantum Shielding is great and the Strategum for Mortal Wounds at units close by a targeted unit is neat. However, it's only got 8 wounds and thus needs some target saturation to soak some fire. It's also not cheap really. Sure, 120pts isn't terrible, but I can get 2 Canoptek Spyders for that price. They can't shoot at that cost but they are fighting units with cheap upgrades. Let's discuss getting the most out of these models even if they're not the strongest choice. Hathor42
I think if they had the same rule the obelisk has they would be super useful. You'd probably have to up their points though hehe. Amon777
If they were cheap, like 80pts, I could see slotting them in. But no matter their point cost, they don't provide anything base troops can't provide which will leave them on the shelf for now. Stupidity
Ya, S5-7 D1 attacks are just too common for Necrons to consider taking them. They offer nothing a list needs. Get Thokt
The best use I got out of it was using it as a proxy for a Catacomb Command Barge. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/367115-annihilation-barges/#findComment-5619462 Share on other sites
Miek
The best use I got out of it was using it as a proxy for a Catacomb Command Barge. Haha yeah... For some reason I bought 2 a while ago and built then as AB without magnets, but I only ever use them as CCB proxies. I'll have to break one apart someday and make a real one. Mr4Minutes
If they could still fall back and shoot they’d make good screen/harassing units. That’s how I used 1-2 in 8th. Without that they just don’t bring any oomph. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/367115-annihilation-barges/#findComment-5619507 Share on other sites
Captain Idaho
13 shots seems really strong to me, especially if you roll a few 6s mixed in when rolling to hit. The Tesla Cannon performs the same as the Destructor against T5 and below, the ideal targets. It is true our Warriors provide a decent bit of firepower, as di the Immortals, but having a large anti-infantry platform in support seems prudent. My biggest issue is I don't take many quantum Shielding vehicles as the theme isn't what I'm looking. Otherwise, a pair of Barges amongst a couple Arks and Doomsday Cannons looks fairly strong to me. JaM_TW
I really like the model, and rolling lots of dice is something I like. :) I only used 1 in 2 games so far, and I dont play a lot of games. So far it worked okay for me. Rest of the army was tesla immortals, wraiths, some destroyers, Szerak and a Lord. 8th edition. about 1000 points IIRC. Days gone by, a model with 10 shots (13 if you take the extra Tesla Cannon) which net 2 additional hits on 6s, at S7, would be golden in any army for less than 130pts. I think folk are concerned with heavy and super heavy infantry. Rightfully so. I do find myself agreeing with your assessment that this weapons platform works. You're looking at an average of (against T4 and using the Tesla Cannon) of 13 hits out of 13 shots, taking into account the extra hits on 6s. Then about 7-8 saves need to be taken. Sure it's not world beating against Marines now they have so many 2 wounds stuff. But hey it works against so many other targets it's still good and if you come up against infantry from any other target you'll rinse through them. Plague _Lord
I think against certain armies they could be quite good: Orks (thinning the horde and taking out the light vechicles) Guard (thinning the ranks, possibly finishing a chimera off) Sob (wounding on a 2+ makes a big difference and should take out a msu squad a turn) Eldar (4++ saves dont like weight of dice, the barge destroys most of their infantry) Tau (thinning drone squads) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/367115-annihilation-barges/#findComment-5620588 Share on other sites
Captain Idaho
Just Marines and Custodes, really. Knights too I guess. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/367115-annihilation-barges/#findComment-5620616 Share on other sites
