Iron Sapper
I haven't seen this discussed anywhere. In the new Space Marines Codex (pg.124), the Chapter keyword section , it states you cannot select Grey Knights or Legion of the Damned when nominating which Chapter a unit is from. We all know Grey Knights are getting their own Codex, but why specifically mention Legion of the Damned? Could this be an indication of a Legion of the Damned Codex or a Supplement on the way? librisrouge and Dark Shepherd 2 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/367220-legion-of-the-damned-codex/ Share on other sites
Dark Shepherd
My guess is theyre just the 2 Astartes units not covered by this codex Would be a jump for LOTD to go from one datasheet in legends and no models currently available from GW to getting a supplement Maybe they get a new (Primaris?) model release at some point or even appear in a Talons of the Emperor codex Kallas and Iron Sapper 2 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/367220-legion-of-the-damned-codex/#findComment-5621941 Share on other sites
NovemberIX
I'm gonna say it probably has more to do with the nature of the LoTD than any codex probability. I think they had gotten a sheet in White Dwarf at least an edition ago, if not two, but I don't know if it's still any sorta applicable, which might be why they're considered a faction of their own, but I'd also hedge and say that because from as far back as 5th Chapter Tactics wouldn't affect LoTD. That and they've been put in Legends. Brother Tyler
Pretty much what has already been said: The Grey Knights aren't covered because they will be covered in their own dedicated codex. The Legion of the Damned aren't covered because they aren't included in Codex: Space Marines, and are currently covered via their own Legends datasheet. As for whether or not the Legion of the Damned will be getting support in the future, that's hard for anyone that's not on the inside to say. It would be a shame for them to be removed entirely, though the Legends treatment might be said to remove that chance. It would be nice to see them supported in the future, but the rule shown in the first post doesn't necessarily mean that this will be the case. While many of us, myself included, would be very pleased to see GW revisit the Legion of the Damned in the future, I recommend against holding your breath. Remember, hope is the first step on the road to disappointment. WrathOfTheLion
I think it just means that they are scoped to not be included in Codex: Space Marines, which perhaps they view as causing collisions if you were to take Space Marines with the LotD keyword. But it does mean the rules are there to support an update to them, like how the LoW rules allow for another Primarch other than Roboute Guilliman. Does it mean we will see it? No. Does it mean the game would support it? Yes. Ulfast
I would love a codex of undead space marines! That would indeed be a twist and both the lore and old miniatures is great. Charlo
Yeah, they've mentioned them as exceptions for this type of thing before. It's to stop any rules exploits and people having a full LotD army due to loop holes. Aramis K
Or, wild speculation, next year we see a Legion of the Damned reboot as a mini faction that can slot into any imperial force. Manifestations of faith after the psychic awakening, marine saviours conjured by desparate prayers. It'd be another way to sell marines to half the players in the game, and I bet they'd have fun with the special effects sculpting they love these days. Hollow armour, flame and spooky effects. Maybe take the master of mankind spin and make them the ghosts of Istavan led by a headless Ferrus. Just saying, they could do something really fun here. Ulfast
I love those ideas. As you said, both the story and the models could be very fun and intersting to do.
