Not played with the new army wide HI but the old 6” character HI caused havoc and now that’s back as well as a 0CP strat. Tasty.

Wolves look really strong and while we lost a couple of the best strays everything else really makes up for it. We (and the other non codex chapters) are also blessed that our older stuff is at least on par with its nearest Primaris competitor. No one is going to be taking Outriders over Thunderwolves for the rules and Wolf Guard go toe to toe with Blade Guard. Can’t wait to get this on the table!

Does the wolfspear lore imply that they have non-Primaris if they have warrior reinforcements from the SW?

It seems like in the short term that might be how they approach Ultima founding DA/SW/BA chapters, make them not all Primaris.

No company specific rules...GW hate us ironwolves.

Well at least I can upgrade ironpriest to master of the forge...

You can use the successor chapter rules to tailor a list closer to an Iron Wolves army. You miss out on named characters- which none of them are iron wolves anyways. Master Artisans? Stalwart? Scions of forge? You miss out on using more than one SW relic though. You may not need more than 1.

I honestly don’t understand why they don’t have two new Great Companies to replace Iron Wolves and Fire Howlers. The Great Company’s heraldry is a reflection of the Wolf Lord’s temperament and it used to go to great lengths to explain how each Wolf Lord had shaped its company. Sven and Egil are both dead: they ought to introduce two new Wolf Lords and two new Great Companies.

Wolf Lords die all the time, relatively speaking. The “they chose to keep the heraldry to honor their dead Wolf Lord” is a massive cop-out, IMHO. You kill off two Wolf Lords but then there are zero consequences. Worst of both worlds.

From the fluff blurb.

They were under chapter strength, until they went to fenris where Logan gave them man power and supplies.

So there's room for firstborn

Does it only mention Wolfspear or are there other Successors included in the book?

At least the Ironwolves got 2 new named Wolf lords. Have the Firehowlers at least chosen a new lord or are they still on the “waiting for Sven to show up cos they don’t believe he is dead” train?

Are there even any Firehowlers left or did they all board the Blackstone fortress before it exploded?

GW is using the same companies since 2nd edition and I can see why. It would really suck if the company markings on your models would be invalidatet every few years :)

Just noticed that the casting cost of a few of the Tempestus Powers seems to have come down. Notably Stormcaller is down to WC6 and still stacks nicely with Tempest's Wrath for -1 to Hit and +1 to our saves even when standing in the open. A squad of Hammernators can now have a 0+ save.

Say this to Knights of Blood players, they are offically wiped out.

I was hoping to avoid Thunderwolves. fluff wise I’ve cooled to the idea of space wolves riding wolves(I prefer a riderless cybernetic thunderwolf monstrosity..stronger and more intelligent with it’s enhancements..seems like a converting opportunity) It appears TDAWGs (my traditionally favorite option) may be in ascendancy so I may look into that.

Sure, that’s practically why, and nothing stopping anyone from continuing to run those schemes just as there’s nothing stopping me from making my own great company with a red wolf head (from 30k HH decals) on a grey field the same color as the rest of their armor. Everyone has always been free to do that, but if GW is going advance the fluff/timeline then they should actually advance the fluff and the timeline.

where is the strat that lets a seargent take a relic?

is that in the marine proper book?

Can anyone tell if the Venerable Dread with shield/axe, or Helfrost, and Bjorn are still in the Supplement as a data sheet? I can't seem to find it on the GW site, and while I know a couple of places in town that's have one, don't want to panic buy or get something that isn't going to be able to be used.

A fast and punchy list built around TWC, Bladeguard in Impulsors and some nicely customised TDAWG led by a Warlord with Rites of War could potentially be brutal. Add a squad of Heavy Intercessors to hold the home Objective and a bit of long ranged firepower and you should be good to go.

Bjorn is still in there. The Axe/Shield Ven Dread is actually in the vanilla codex although strangely the Helfrost option isn't. I would guess the Helfrost is in the supplement but not sure on that one. But the kit is very much still useful. For what it's worth, I can't imagine them ditching a weapon option that is in the kit.

I think it's being reboxed, things like Corvus Blackstar, Wulfen and the BA tactical squad are also down. Highly doubt those are being retired, all are quite new kits.

Could be they have delays between getting new packaging or something.

Dreadnought options are in base codex, and all the others still have datasheets as well, so all evidence is in favor of reboxing for factions about to be featured.

It’s in the supplement, I believe it’s the one called “Thane of the retinue”.
And its special issue wargear section of the relics too so

Artificer Armour

Master-Crafted Weapon

Digital Weapons

Morkai’s Teeth Bolts

Wolf Tail Talisman

Frost Weapon

*forgot Adamantine Mantle I think*
