I'm seriously considering a bunch of dreads, but I was going to use 3 dual purpose Ven Dreads with Claws and MMs.

Is it better to mix up the dreads? Take more specialized guys instead of general TAC?

I would say take some shields at least. All dreads have duty eternal to weather some damage, Ironclads are T8 which lets them go shieldless, but with meltas everywhere I think the invul is key. Plus its something unique to us

But big yes for specialization for ven dreads for me.

It's a tough call. The prevelance of melta in the meta at the moment makes an Invulnerable save desirable. You could simply take a Rune Priest with Psychic Fortress (I think we still have access to this) and give them a 5++ bubble.

Contemptor Dread combines a MM, DCCW and a 5++ in one package and no longer has a degrading profile. They also have M8" which lets them get close to the enemy a little faster. The only downside is the plastic model is very bland while the FW resin one is expensive. It does look sweet though...

Nice! It would be nice to use our unique units. Maybe Dreads in Waves?

Front line dread would be good for shields or Ironclad. For the midfield, I think a Redemptor for speed, or a VenDread (or Bjorn) to be an all rounder. Shooty Dread for the backfield, or another all rounder?

I'm guessing you haven't faced many 9th edition harlequins yet?

The current net list is a bunch of MSU troupes with fusion pistols firing out the back of starweavers with a special rule to advance and fire pistols...also no penalty to firing

That is a 22" fly move followed by 5 fusions pistols hitting on 3s at 6" (fusion rule kicks in at 3")

They also have at least 1 5-man sky weaver with haywire (mortal wounds on vehicles)

That doesn't even take into account eradicators falling out of trees everywhere in marine lists

Basically...I caution you against tilting too heavy towards dreads...vehicles are not long for this world in 9th right now

I have dramatically shifted how I use dreads because of it...I can't walk them across the board as bodyguards anymore...I have to alpha strike out of reserves or set it out as bait intentionally knowing it will draw something close as a distraction carnifex

I actually disagree with this. If you bring enough dreads then you have an abundance of target saturation on the board. They simply can't kill everything. If you have troops to hold objectives while your dreads shoot/melee down their stuff you should be able to win games against any list.

There is some logic in this. A typical 3-man Eradicator squad would be unlikely to destroy more than 1 Dreadnought when coming in from Reserves (and they might not even make that if it has an Invulnerable save). Whilst that might be considered a fair exchange, another Dread would easily squish the Eradicators in the following turn.

Also Eradicators are not the only threat out there. The resurgence of Marines means you will be seeing a lot of plasma about rather than heavier weapons and Dreads with baked-in Duty Eternal are extremely resilient to Plasma. If you want to keep Eradicators out of close melta range, screen them slightly with another unit. Without the +2 damage at close range, Eradicators are a bit less scary. Outside 12", 3 Eradicators will only just kill 1 Dread on average (and likely will not do that if it is a Ven Dread or has an Invuln).

Threat saturation indeed combined with a little care in use.

Collecting my Supplement tomorrow on my birthday - So excited. Fenrys hjolda!

Got a Ragnar conversion planned for months that I'll be glad to create.

Hope everyone is having fun with our new stuff. :)

Anyone get shipping notifications yet?

I got my stuff last night. Currently digesting since i sometimes have a hard time processing the drip leaks. Im really excited though, im kinda mindblown at how much CP im tempted to burn pregame. It'll be very fun to experiment.

Waiting for my LGS to deliver tomorrow (Russ bless them, they've been great during the lockdowns).

Managed to blag the Special Edition through them as well which was neat. Currently experimenting with a few different lists - unfortunately during Lockdown Mk 1 I managed to paint 2 Repulsors and my Wulfen... all of which have been nerfed into oblivion.

Think that a Primaris Biker Wolf Priest leading 3 Outriders and 5 Thunderwolf Cavalry might be a good starting point though, backed up by Grey Hunters & Blood Claws in transports, Redemptors and Intercessors for a firebase, a Rune Priest for the early Assault Doctrine power and some Eradicators for AT.

It's 2000 on the nose but I'm waiting for Battlescribe to update with our new tricks to have a play with WLT and Relics.
