Hi

I’ve got an idea for a colour scheme for a chapter I might paint.

It would be grey and red lines down outermost sides of the legs. Inspiration form the heer uniforms of ww2.

For Commanders maybe black helmets with or without a red line down the middle.

Have you considered how that will look on actual miniatures? Have you considered whether or not you're willing to actually paint the stripes on the legs of all of the miniatures in your force?

Grey and red work well together for the Adeptus Astartes, as evidenced by a number of Chapters, not least of which is the Great Crusade era Space Wolves Legion. Stripes on pants/trousers work well enough (numerous military forces all over the word use them, after all), but they might not look as good on power armour.

If you haven't already given it a go, I suggest trying the scheme out using the Space Marine Painter (or any number of similar apps/sheets).

I’ll try a test model tomorrow and see how it looks. Will use some masking tape for the red lines should help. As you say it might not look to good on a marines armour. So better to test a model before I commit.

Ive tried this with thoughts of reproducing version of a quasi US Marines dress uniform. Which is without doubt best military uniform ever made.

It is a most tedious and soul sucking task to try and reproduce the pin stripe in Astartes. My opinion is you’re better off paying homage to it I tho I that works better on Primaris with their hip plates but ymmv.

Thats a great idea. Could paint the hip plates up red. Would look good.

I basically wouldn’t touch anything associated with the third reich. I’m afraid you can’t separate the uniforms from the actions of the people who wore them. Better to keep to straightforward fantasy, in my opinion.

I think the red stripe is where it will fall down due to the detail and bits on the side of a marine's leg.

That said, have you thought about maybe taking the theme but with a twist.

So go the grey but use the red strategically on thigs like the hand guards, the shin plates and ends of the back pack.  Maybe turn a model side on and see what detail strikes you.

The leaders black helmet might play nicer with a gold stripe instead of red, and would help mark him out even further.

Any pics mate?

as for the grey and red scheme, i bet it would look awesome on a guardsmen, but on astartes armour i thinki it might need to have some plate sections red instead of the red stripe on the legs.

ooor, freehand redlines, but it can get downright chaosy because of word bearers.

un less you go for a carcharadons kind of lines...
