2 big changes.

 

Faith and Fury is finally gone, so those of us without indexes clinging to chapter litanies are put out of our misery (RIP strike off the head)

 

Chapter command points should be the ones at the front of the book, not in the points section. I.E. the cheaper ones. There's some pretty big swings here if you had more than 1 chapter command model.

 

Blood Angels assault squads get additional weapons options. 

 

 

How does it affect you?

For me, I think my block of 6 outriders with Chaplain might become 1 single unit of 3. Strike off the Head and Litany of Hatred made them a pretty lethal hammer. With that gone, i'll be getting 1 unit with Exhortation of Rage and Litany of Hatred alongside the chappy. not sure on what to replace it with, but as i've now got 20 extra points, should be interesting.

I feel like taking away the chapter litanies is kind of annoying. Really goes to show how cynical the release cycle of marines was in the last year of 8th. Faith and fury released only 2 or 3 months after the 8.5 book and was planned to have its marine content fully removed less than a year later.

 

I'll also say that waiting a month for mechanical silliness like the ATV resurrected off the explode, or the white dwarf stuff explicitly getting removed from crimson fists and blood ravens only for it to still be there is annoying. Faqs are done on computers, using information sent via computer; lockdown shouldn't affect that type of work since its equally as easy to do it from home as in an office. And the result is pretty anemic.

They are actually laid out specifically as suggestions, not as iron clad rules.

 

You could be playing Howling Griffons, like I do, who are legitimately an Ultramarines Successor; by the rules I "have" to play them as UM Successors. But sod that noise, I'll play them with the Chapter Tactics/Supplement I want, because it's about fun. I just transferred my Crusade stuff over to Space Wolves because they just 'fit' better to how I see them, and my buddies are all just like, "Yup, barely needed any modifications."

 

I've even attended tournaments (pre-Covid, post 8th Ed 2.0 C:SM) where nobody gave a damn that I used the Wolves despite being a defined UM Successor.

Ya it's a recommendation, not what you have to take.

 

And it also doesn't say anything like "the white dwarf is completely invalid"; it's inferred by the suggestions for chapter tactic and angelos new sheet and purgatorus new sheet and chief librarian being updated, but that's still an inference. I could use the chief librarian strat if I wanted to save on points elsewhere, because they never invalidated the rules like they did with faith and fury.
