So considering there is currently only one Chaos Lord model (Mr Tubular), what are people using for Lord models with different weapons other than a TH?

I'm looking to make a Combi-Plasma/ Chainsword Lord and have no idea what model to use as a base...

I'm assuming you mean model wise more than anything (though of course, model bits are generally needed to match wargear choices)? I made my Lord from Sanguinary Guard bits for the body, and Warp Talon claws for weapons. He is magnetised but I have yet to take another load out :laugh.: My CSM are Slaanesh so I like characters to look a bit fancier, but there are many ways you can approach it.

If you don't have a particular "angle" then your bits box is your oyster and you can make him out of whatever bits you like - power armour is power armour after all. It's nice to have characters stand out from the rank and file a bit, more so for something like a Lord so if you use more standard Marine pieces you'll likely want to add some bits to make him look a bit more special.

Maybe if you could provide a bit more information on your warband/Legion's ways people can be a bit more specific with suggestions and examples

So one aim I would like to have is have him stand out as you say, but I would like that to be in size also, the current range of Chaos characters I feel all look a little bigger than the new CSM and I am worried that if I use a standard CSM as a base he will just look like one of my Chosen rather than the warbands Lord. I like the thought that the Lord is the biggest and baddest of them all.

So model size is one of the main factors, as much as I don't like the current tubular Lord, he has a good size to him.

My Chosen:

Chosen

My other two most recent finishes

Sorcerer

Contemptor

I had a though about using this Dark Angles LT as a base, with a backpack, shoulder pad and weapon swap as well as scrape the DA insignia off his chest, I think he will loose enough of the Imperial vibe. I might even be able to do a single leg swap... I believe Primaris are slightly bigger than CSM aren't they? and as he is a Primaris character he should be a little bigger still?

The Lieutenant will be larger than your Marines yes, but perhaps that's what you're after? It'd make him stand out a lot if so though I think you'll need to do a fair bit to remove the Imperial/Primaris look. Aside from the obvious in Imperial symbols I think removing the crest on the knee pads would go far. I think the Sorcerer stands out nicely so maybe working a good old cloak in is a good way to ensure he looks different to others?

Yeah I would like the Lord model to be slightly larger than the rest of my Marines. I may see if I can graft some CSM legs below the knee onto him to remove more of the sleek Primaris look, but not sure how easy that will be to do.

The cloak is one of the reasons I liked this LT, he's got a Tabard which I was thinking would do itself, but I may actually have a Mighty Lord of Khorne Cape I can use as well.

Other than Kranon, I pretty much always use Jump Lords, and so Haarken makes a great base for that. I have some old CSM kits and use those for combi-bits. For a CSM Lord, it really is you have to kit bash. Any character model is a good base and if you can get ahold of the old CSM (troop) kit, that has a lot of good options for shoulders and decoration. For weapons, I recommend the Raptor kit, especially for Chainswords.

Maybe try an Exalted Champion as the base or, as previously mentioned, a Havoc Champion.
