I'm sure this has been discussed to death, but I felt like starting a thread as less a direct comparison and more of how to combine them I suppose. I haven't picked any up...yet. I have a lot of TDAWG I'm hesitant to sideline.

I was trying to 1-1 compare them when I realized TDAWG can't quite have the same weapon load out as Blade guard. ( I never field my wolf guard with all the same weapons anyway, but still). Seems to me they could compliment each other well enough.

Have any of you fielded these various vets in the same list? If so, how, and did it feel "worth it"?

(Edited for clarity.)

The Power Fist is probably the closest weapon to the MC Power Sword as it has 2D and AP-3. The S8 compensates for the -1 to-Hit largely.

BGVs cost 35 points each and have 2+/4++. WG TDAs with PF/SS cost 38 points and have a 1+/4++ save so are slightly more durable to small arms, chainswords etc. WG TDAs get no ranged attacks while BGVs have heavy pistols which are decent.

There isn't a huge amount in it IMHO. Terminators get Teleport Strike which is really handy for getting them to a midfield Objective if needed. I think both are viable. TDAs are possibly slightly better but cost slight more so that is probably fair. BGVs are probably bets when accompanying other Primaris characters like Ragnar and a Judiciar in an Impulsor.

The wolf guard tda have the fun advantage of their possible versatility as they always have. Blade guard are consistent and direct sword and board assaut, but I'm more curious about if others have run both at the same time.

I've been looking at wolves a little differently with all of our tricks and mobility buffs for the assault phases.

So have any of you used both in the same list, working together

Bladeguard I view as a defensive area of control unit.  Anything that comes near dies in melee.  Savage strike with their S5 swords is a powerful combo.

I like bladeguard in units of 5 pushing middle objectives...a mission like sweep and clear is perfect for them

If someone fires big guns you use transhuman...if people fire small arms the 2+ save and 3 wounds usually hold up and any light cover you can find is a blessing

I have changed how I use terminators with the changes in the new marine codex

Transhuman was the special ingredient that kept terminators on the field previously

Without it I view them as an offensive tool only

I have a few builds I am experimenting with

-Horde killing specialists to steal an objective.  Everyone has a SB/LC setup.  Unit is cheap and effective against chaff.  Once they kill the chaff they waddle onto the objective and just sit there all game.

-Specialist hard target killers.  Everyone has a combi melta/storm shield setup.  They can fire on 2s using fury of the first stratagem.  Once they kill the hard target they waddle onto the objective and just sit there all game.

If you want to upgrade and start using 2-3 TH/CF in a squad...but then you need to combo them with a chaplain so they have a 7" charge on arrival

I stopped using the combi-plasma version when we lost keen senses.  I need to reevaluate them now that our supplement gave it back

What's changed about the terminator loadouts?

From what I can see, almost nothing?

The only change I can see is that only the pack leader can run power sword+gun, as you can't swap the powerfist for a power sword. But lightning claws and power axes are the same price as power swords, so take those instead.

(I know this a tad off topic, but I thought a PSA was merited because this is a non-obvious change).

As for Wolf Guard in TDA vs. Bladeguard... With an extra attack and access to a 2 damage weapon that doesn't take a to-hit penalty, Bladeguard are dedicated Marine Killers. Wolf Guard in TDA benefit from flexibility (You can take combi-weapons and wolf claws for a more general purpose unit) and their access to heavy melee weapons like Powerfists. Thunder hammers are also interesting with our ability to turn on Assault Doctorine early (AP -2 D3 vs AP -3 D2 is a difficult choice. AP-3 D3 vs AP -4 D2, less so), especially since it will soon take a D3 weapon to consistently kill Plague Marines.

Thanks for the input! That's the sort of thinking I was after. My go to TDA used to be arjac with a squad of 6 tda with a mix of chainfists, hammers shields and combi plasma. With the changes all around, I'm looking at how to adapt them and if there's a case to run them with blade guard Edited by theprophetofwar
