Greetings Princeps!

I have just this week been admitted to the Collegia Titanica and while I may have missed some of the initial battles of the Heresy, there is still much conflict to come!

After some great musings, I have bought into AT with another fellow's collection of goodies. So I now found myself with some very nice toys but somewhat bemused by all the options and where to start - thus I seek guidance from the more experienced Legio Officers.  My son and I are not newcomers to the hobby and are experienced Blood Bowlers and 40k players.

Specifically, it would be useful to understand what legios, maniples, titans weapons configs would comprise "Titanicus 101" and the progress from there

Our collection is currently the core rules plus TitanDeath

Model wise we have 2 Warlords (1 painted), 2 Reavers, and 6 warhounds (4 painted), which seems to be a good mix to start with.

An up front thanks to the God Engine Cast and Full Stride podcasts whom I have found very inspiring (despite not quite understanding many aspects!)

yours in future Victories!

Welcome Princeps. Always good to see more people joining this great game.

I've made an attempt at writing a guide to AT in the Principia Titanicus thread. It's intended to give some ideas on how the game works. I've written posts looking at most of the different Legios, but they keep publishing more so it's a bit hard to keep track.

Goonhammer have a lot of good AT content. Check out their Warlord Wednesdays series, in which they look at how to paint and play different Legios.

There are a lot of Legios in the game so it would take a long time to go through them all. They are definitely not all equally powerful, but you can still win with any of them.

The TitanDataSheets app is pretty useful to design rosters, though personally I usually use a spreadsheet. There aren't many units in AT so it's not too difficult to work out points.

Good luck!

Welcome aboard.

In addition to the resources mentioned above, if you really want a 101 crash course into the game, there are a few guideline to internalize and then deconstruct at your leisure when you start to get a better grip on things:

1) While maniples, legio traits and such certainly guide your strategy, the game happens at the table. Good tactical ploys and maneuvers decide the match. For this purpose, use plenty of terrain on the board to see how much it matters from the get-go.

2) Titans can take a beating and push through if simply fired on spray'n'pray style. Armament-wise you need a balanced mix in the force to first break shields with lots of dakka (gatlings, apocs, bolters), then something hard hitting to punch through armour (plasma, volcanoes, melta) and then more dakka to aim at the weakened parts to finish them off. Don't overspecialise in the beginning, but have a bit of everything on your engines. A bolter + plasma Warhound is a classic, as is a melta + gatling + apoc Reaver. Warlords require a bit more commitment in their loadouts, being better off going either all-in for long range artillery or shorter range brawler duty.

3) For basic maniples in the rulebook and Titandeath, consider what you want your force to do. If you are beginners, you might want to split your available models into 1 WL, 1 Re and 2 WH Axiom Maniples, so you can try out various situations and Orders without the analysis paralysis that comes from trying to prioritize your Orders and stopping when the first one fails. Mostly you're looking at what strategy can your maniple choice further: reliable command with a bit of everything (Axiom), aggressive stalking (Venator), flexible mobility and pack tactics (Lupercal), unbreakable castle (Regia)...

+1 for goonhammers articles for a basic look over

When it comes to arming titans its hard to get an unworkable loadout, check the ranges of your weapons are comparable and you cant go too far wrong, by the nature of the sprues you should end up with a good mix of anti hull and shield stuff :)

As you are already good with basic wargaming id just pop stuff down and play it to see how things work yourself personally!

Oooh and dont underestimate terrain, unlike a few games it has a huge impact on AT, our group likes very heavy terrain but ymmv :)

+2,457 for Goonhammer.

I've just got into AT myself and have only had 3 games so far. Goonhammer has been an absolute godsend in terms on maniple composition, what titans and weapons to take and little tricks and tactics. It's always nice to see example Maniples with lists and models as well.

To start off with I just went for an Axiom maniple as it includes all classes of titans and you have enough points in there to get some decent weapons on your titans. The Maniple trait isn't fantastic but it's always active and being able to order issues after a failed Command Roll lets you get to grips with the rules a bit faster.
