Blissful Brushes
So I’m set to run out of my Forgeworld weathering powders and I’ve just noticed that they’ve discontinued them. A quick nosey about the internet has led me to Vallejo and Tamiya. Has anybody had success with either of these or can recommend a different brand? I tend to pour a bit of powder out and mix with either satin/Matt/gloss varnish depending on quite how I want the effect to look so I’m a bit hesitant about Tamiya and the makeup box set. Axineton
I started using weathering powders a few months back and bought these: https://abteilung502.com/product/rust-exhaust-pigments-set/ they do a whole host of colours and the ones I’ve used have been really good. Hi Blissful Brushes, Pigments are one of my favorite tools of the trade. I have used AK, Abteilung (a division of AK), Vallejo, Kromlech, and AMMO of Mig, and I've settled for the latter for most jobs. In my experience, however, what is crucial is not the pigments themselves, but whatever you use as a fixer. I highly recommend you stop using varnish and instead use an enamel-based pigment fixer, like AMMO's. I have several videos on this very topic, if you like. Here you can see one where I applied weathering pigments to a Terrax Termite I painted for Leakycheese: http://youtu.be/OWMB-M34jCA?t=763 If you have any questions, just PM me. -Enrique @ TRFT Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/367905-weathering-powders/#findComment-5636989 Share on other sites
Mandragola
I've tried out quite a lot of weathering options, though I don't consider myself an expert. I've been very impressed by the Tamiya Weathering Master sets. They aren't powders as such, in fact they look a lot like makeup and they are applied in the same way, with a little silicone brush thing. They're way easier to work with than powders though.
