I was at my local GW doing some Christmas shopping today, and I suspect the store working was feeding me a line of B.S. I mentioned that I have a friend who has unbuilt models for both Indomitus and Dark Imperium that he told me he wants to start a Deathwatch army with. My intent was to get him some sets of the Deathwatch shoulder pads (I know he would have to carve off the existing pad to use them). Well the store worker claimed that those shoulder pads won’t fit Primaris marines anyways because they are slightly smaller and that I should (surprise!) instead get the Deathwatch start collecting set that he did happen to have in stock. He was sold out of the shoulder pad sets anyways so, I’m just going to search elsewhere anyways.

I figure I’d ask here to see if others have had this issue with the Deathwatch shoulder pads on regular Primaris models because I’ve never seen a single post online of someone having this issue. The GW store employee is a nice enough guy; but I’ve noticed he has a habit of spinning tall tales so I always take what he says about things like this with a huge grain of salt.

Its the same one sold seperate as the one in the patrol box.

Even if he doesn't want to play many vets buy a couple vets boxes or the older start collecting if you can find it.

The DW firstborns have the most similar size to primaris. Most specifically the arms and melee weapons.

In the 5 man vets box you get 5 DW pads, 10 various chapter shoulder pads and heads. 2 hvy hammers, 2 huge power mauls, 3 or 4 power swords, 1 combi weapon, 2 storm shields, infernus hvy bolter, frag cannon, shotguns, xenoblade, bolters, stalker bolter. All with the Inquisition swag.

Honestly any marine player should always grab some DW vets boxes because of all the weapons. You get enough gear to arm 15 to 20 marines. Look at my post in this DW section under INDOMITUS EYE CANDY. I kitbashed all the indomitus into DW.

I've heard the Terminator shoulder pad has trouble going onto the Inceptors. But that's the only issue I have ever heard.

I used to do counts as Deathwatch rather than take the effort of modelling properly, so can't confirm this.

its mostly because the raised portion on the top part. Most people trim the back half off
