Watcher in the Dark and successor

Anyone know if there is any lore about the Watcher in the dark and our successor.

I know lore and gameplay is 2 different thing. In the game Deathwing/Knight/Master can have watcher following them but is there any lore about a watcher following a successor chapter?

If watcher only live on the Rock, what happen with them when they leave the rock for a longer period of time, any mention of watcher abord ship or they only join inner circle member on the battlefield?

Watcher in the Dark are one of the biggest mistery of the DA/Unforgiven, am trying to find out if they are only link to the Rock or he legion at large and if they have any connection with the primaris/ultima founding. I hope our new supplement will give us more detail on them...

As far as I’m aware they’re weirdly tied to the rock and I’ve never seen mention of them leaving it

I could be wrong but i definitely haven’t read anything that suggests they leave,

But we do know that all of the unforgiven chapters spend lots of time at the rock, Nikar of the consecrators is said to know more of it than Ezekiel so I’m guessing they definitely come into contact with them, at least the successors inner circles probably have

They definitely could leave Caliban during the Crusade/Heresy, as we see then appear to different Dark Angels characters around the galaxy in the Horus Heresy series. I don't see anything to suggest that's changed in the 40k era.

To touch on what exactly they are (from the Dreadwing novella, the only real source on who/what they are), there's seemingly nothing stopping them from leaving the Rock/Caliban entirely, but they seem to see it as their duty as guardians/influencers to stick around the chapter/legion and manipulate events.

To answer your question about successors:

Their goals WERE connected to the legion in general, as well as Caliban. I personally believe that means that there's nothing stopping Watchers appearing to those of successors, as long as the Watchers see that, as being useful.
