Jacques Corbin
So here is my topic. Very limited play. A few games versus "casual" players. Not the most fluffy, but my Primaris Techmarine with Master of Ambush has been great. He brings a squad of Assault Intercessors to the midfield where an Invictor is waiting. I really like this group, Chapter Tactics means they get cover outside 18", even -1 to hit. Inside 18", well you are in Heavy Bolt Pistol range. On top of that, I can move and charge, if I do not need to hold that objective. A Phobos Librarian. Haven't fielded him yet, but have done some list brewing. I am between Ghostweave Cloak and Armor of Shadows for relics. Leaning more towards the former. Lord of Deceit for the Warlord trait. So, that let's me redeploy him, and any other Phobos units. If I wanted to do Reivers, I would give him Master of the Trifold Path and give him Fear Made Manifest, and/or bring a Reiver Lieutenant in as well. Another thing I want to try is using LoD to redeploy Eliminators to correct for my opponent's own deployment. Any thoughts? My favorite is still the Phobos Lieutenant with Ex Tenebris. I adore dropping him in with a unit of Inceptors. I suppose Grav Chute Reivers would be fluffier, but 9W at T5 tends to be better than 10W at T4. Guerilla Tactics allows me to put him back into reserves to drop back in with his Grav Chutes. Maybe even give him Echo of the Ravenspire to give him a way out. I like to call this the El Cheapo option. A Primaris Lieutenant with Lament. Great for camping with Eliminators, but not if I plan to redeploy them with Lord of Deceit. That is the most fluffy place to put him, but he can add a bit to any unit that needs to just camp and shoot. I haven't used my Chaplain with Master of Ambush to bring Aggressors forward in quite awhile. Been focused on going second. What are your thoughts on any of these? duz_
I wish I could give more input but I've only played one pre codex game with my RG and it didn't go well  :ermm: Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/368398-primaris-hqs/#findComment-5650556 Share on other sites
Dracos
I’ve been using Chaplain with either Assault Intercessors or Bladeguard recently. Still beastly. They held a necron swarm and 20 Warriors back recently long enough for the Incursors to max my Primary in 3 turns and perform deploy scramblers. Competitively. Either as MoA or on a bike Chaplains are the go to second HQ choice. After that it’s one of various Lieutenants. Librarians really could use a bump. Jacques Corbin
Well, my thought for the Librarian would be Fear Made Manifest and/or Lord of Deceit to redeploy him and a unit of Reivers, cast Hallucinations and then Mind Raid. Mind Raid with those Ld penalties would be brutal. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/368398-primaris-hqs/#findComment-5650735 Share on other sites
dakkamasta
Chaplains are phenomenal for us right now. With MoA they can get a scary assault unit up the board and then buff them for a nasty alpha strike. Bike Chaplains do this job very well too and the Swift and Deadly warlord trait is a must on them, essentially turning him and everyone in 6" into a White Scar. Phobos Lieutenant is cheap and a debuff monster whilst also fitting well into our Chapter theme. Give him the Rites of Battle warlord trait and the Vox Espiritum relic so he gives a huge ObSec bubble whilst also extending all his other auras, of which he can have up to 5 total. Phobos Librarian is much more niche and you have to have a plan for him. His uses are very situational but very useful in the right circumstances. I take one purely because I love the model but if I was going pure competitive it would be a Lieutenant and some variant of Chaplain. Dracos
5 ? Auras ? ... or 5 Buffs? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/368398-primaris-hqs/#findComment-5650898 Share on other sites
Alcyon
It's kind of sad but I think the Primaris Chaplain on a Bike is just by far the best SM HQ model right now and should probably be an auto-take in most armies. I have one but feel weird running him without Outriders, who are pretty bad especially with their max squad size of 3 hurting their ability to shield him with Look Out, Sir. Thankfully almost all the datasheets in the book are good enough compared to other armies that you have plenty of range to customize if you don't mind losing a bit of competitive edge. My current list is running a Gravis CM and a JP Chaplain. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/368398-primaris-hqs/#findComment-5651534 Share on other sites
dakkamasta
5 ? Auras ? ... or 5 Buffs? 5 Auras. He comes with 2 on his Datasheet, unlocks another 2 with the Reiver stratagem and then Rites of Battle for a 5th.
