Been a while since I shared a list, so figured why not. Planning to use this at an online TTS tournament I'm organising.

 

The Death Rider Vets, one of the Rider officers and the scions go into deepstrike. The normal Rider squads are the vanguard, sallying out first for charges or to bodyblock. The infantry can pretty reliably run forward behind them and grab objectives. The Manticores sit hidden away and the TCs will initially hide as well and then pick targets of opportunity.

The Death Riders are sweet. Their fast and can take a lot of damage thanks to being 3W with a 5+++. Their damage output is okay, but I mainly use them to tie stuff up. The built in outflank is just the cherry on top.

 

Rough Riders just don't match up to that. They were inferior to Death Riders before the new FW book and even more so since.

 

For the Vox, it honestly depends on your playstyle. For this list Assassinate is one of the secondaries that can be maxed. So having the option of keeping some characters back and in relative safety is pretty valuable to me. I also just generally like the flexibility of being able to put an order where I actually need it on the fly.

 

I liked bringing Vox before the point increases in 9th and the changes to the missions but I think after them they've only become more viable.

interesting list. im seeing the death riders pop up every now and then, are they any good, how do they match up against rough riders?

 

also do you find the vox worth thier points?

Better than Rough Riders, especially the Command Squad, but it is a mute point now as Rough Riders aren't legal units anymore except for casual play since they got moved to Legends.

Looks like a fun list, but very CP intensive with 3 separate detachments. If you can squeeze it down to 2 that'd probably be beneficial.

 

Also, I'd highly suggest adding Hunter-Killer missiles to your Manticores. Since already have Full Payload on them that also applies to the missile.

The list performed well enough, but it was too many horses and not enough firepower. If I bring them nowadays I tend to stick to a patrol, 1 commander, 2 squads of riders, maybe some combat enginneers. Troop slots get basic scion squads. No Command squads, they just didn't cut it.

 

I'm aware of HKs on FP Mantis, but honestly...I see them as more of a meme. :P

It's one shot with a 50/50 chance of hitting that, unlike the other shooting of the Manti you care about, requires line of sight. If I really can't find a more reliable use for the 5 - 10 points I take them, but they're not in the crucial category.

 

I kinda consider them CP-bait, because they're so swingy you're almost guaranteed to be tempted to use a reroll when you miss or fail to wound.

 

As for the 3 detachments...yeah it's pricey but I pay it up front to specialise my detachments as much as possible to the role they're meant to fulfill and to minimise reroll CPs later as much as possible. That leaves any CP I do have available for the few strats that I plan on from the get go.
