roryokane
Noble and learned brethren of the forum, I have a question. I’ve dug out my older models based on the original RT/2nd/3rd Ed Rhino kits. I realised that there really isn’t a good way to represent the older vindicators having siege shields (and they look weird without them), despite putting my techmarine helmet on for a bit. I considered the Deimos models from forge world (since they’re supposed to invoke the older models), but neither the Vindicator nor Vindicator Destroyer have a solid siege shield like the model based on the more recent rhino has. Has anyone got any ideas on how to source some (like Kromlech or similar) or the best way to kitbash some ? They look a bit naked looking at them next to the newer variant. I realise this is largely aesthetic but still. Just a thought. I hope the Apothecaries are keeping you all safe from the contagion that seems to be widespread at the moment. Xenith
There's nothing to say what a siege shield actually looks like, nor do Dozer Blades actually have in-game rules now, they're purely aeshetic. I'd just add the dozer blade from the original vindi kit to the model, or source one of the much better looking IG ones. I use those on many of my BA Tanks. And just because, a new chassis with the old dozer: Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/368436-old-style-3rd-ed-vindicators-siege-shields/#findComment-5651355 Share on other sites
Lord Raven 19
Gurad have rules for dozer blades, you could have a look and see if you want them for casual play? Xenith
Gurad have rules for dozer blades, you could have a look and see if you want them for casual play? Marines dont, which is what I'm getting at. A vmodel with or without a modelled dozer blade is WYSIWYG as it has no impact on the game, so sticking a blade on a vindicator should cause no confusion. Unless all your other tanks have the same dozer blade...like mine do. roryokane
Thank you for the replies thus far. I’m basically trying to work out how to go about making a thing that looks like the newer vindicator’s siege shield to go on the old pattern vindicator, purely for aesthetic reasons, and was hoping someone knew of a good way to kitbash one or if anywhere sold one that would work. infyrana
The older kits have a dozer blade on their accessories sprue with the big box missile launcher a spikey bumper if you can find any about. Puppets war used to do dozer blades with their big momma cannon for aftermarket ideas. 3d printing is an option if that's an Avenue for you. Xenith
I googled forge world dozer blade for you and this tutorial was the second result: https://imgur.com/gallery/744WjI2 Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/368436-old-style-3rd-ed-vindicators-siege-shields/#findComment-5651857 Share on other sites
roryokane
I was more hoping for an actual siege shield - you know, that covers the whole frontage of the tank with a hole for the gun to fire out of. Like the newer model vindicator has. The problem is that unlike the old vindicator, on the new vindicator the cannon isn’t in the midline of the tank, so the firing slot for the demolisher cannon is also off to one side, meaning if you just slapped it on an old vindicator you’d end up with the shield skewed off to one side. So I want a way around that, not just a dozer blade but literally to obscure the front of the tank with the demolisher cannon peeping out the front like on the new model. I was wondering if anyone had take a siege shield from a new vindicator and cut out the viewport part which is to the right of the cannon apperture and then glued it back together, making the whole thing symmetrical, for example. LameBeard
I was wondering if anyone had take a siege shield from a new vindicator and cut out the viewport part which is to the right of the cannon apperture and then glued it back together, making the whole thing symmetrical, for example. I had a vague memory of seeing this, but couldn’t find anything with a search, but it would most likely be someone converting the plastic kit to be symmetrical and so “more heresy”. Maybe I was confusing with the Land Raider Aries tutorial, which has some manipulation of the siege shield. Also, don’t Puppetswar have a shield with a gap for the gun? Puppetwar was a bust, but thanks for the advice. Gonna have a play when I actually have 5 minutes to myself. Any more recommendations would be very welcome! :D Edited January 14, 2021 by roryokane Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/368436-old-style-3rd-ed-vindicators-siege-shields/#findComment-5653946 Share on other sites
ixzion
I added a normal Leman Russ dozer blade to my old school vindicator. I don't have any other vindicators though. Even if I did have other Vindicators I wouldn't be worried it would look out of place as it looks quite different any way. You can just claim that it is a relic of a forgotten age (it sort is any way, when was that kit released?) Grotsmasha
If 3D printing is a viable option, having THIS printed at the correct size, and manually making the cutout for the barrel could work. I've managed to get a few bits off of eBay, so I'll see what I can bash together!
