Was there another general point hike across the board for everybody?  I’m having trouble processing this.

Side Note: Haven’t player my Guard since GW ignored the list of grievances from this forum and replied by nerfing the Mordians in the next update.

Depends on your playstyle really.

Infantry (IS, Vets, Command Squads, Astropaths) became more expensive.

Vehicles (Chimeras, standard Russes) and Bullgryns became cheaper

Vehicle-heavy lists also got a boost thanks to the change to the Bring it down secondary.

Apart from that, a lot of units had their mandatory equipment costs shifted into their base costs. For example, Sentinels are now 35p base with a free ML, as opposed to 30p base + 5p ML.

I found the new style a bit confusing though, so need to have a closer look at it later.

Here’s hoping you’re right! I’m holding off buying the 8th edition book until the new one drops.

I made a 2k list for my Krieg so I had a direction to build to.

After the 5 point increase on infantry squads I’ve had to drop the mole launcher on my third squad of Engineers.

Not a major issue but was a bit annoying.

Again hopefully the new codex will follow soon.

one thing i noticed was the lord commisar, i was al excited when they showed were 5 points cheaper, but realised all they had done was taken the power sword from his listing and put it on as an optional upgrade. handy if you want bare bones i guess.

Guard were clearly tearing it up on the competitive scene.....

Some really weird ones.

Plasma/melta on special weapon team (BS4) only 3 pts?

Bullgryn down to 35pts! each (-8)

List I'm building has gone up 60pts - down 48pts. Net change 12 pts.

Going to knock 3 conscripts out of a squad.... otherwise unchanged.

It'd be good to see a list of point changes directly, I'm a bit out of touch with making lists recently but this is probably a bit of work. Does anyone know if this has been done somewhere already?

The game is still rather deadly so this helps with the likes of Vehicles and Bullgryns, but this isn't the same with infantry getting more expensive as they die quickly. It probably works out as little change overall for me, as I usually take mixed lists, but I'm not sure where the end goal is with these changes.

Perhaps when it arrives the new Guard codex will introduce some significant changes..? I reckon we're a few months away at the least from that but as we're always saying - we'll wait and see :P

If I’m not mistaken, special weapons teams went up in points, while their gear dropped a few, so they absorbed some of the prices.

Heavy weapons teams now get the equipment for free unless it’s a lascannon or missile launcher, which is only 5 points.

Yay for my Armored Company list...

Holy smokes, that should have been the first thing I checked instead of posting here...

40 point savings.  Feels good.  Some room for unit upgrades.  Maybe nix an Armored Fist Squad for Scout Sentinels.  Possibly add a deep-striking unit.  The lack of deep-strikingly has kept me luke-warm on this.  With the small bump in Special Weapon Squads the obvious option would have been the old 45 point melta squad.  No longer possible at the current 49 points.

Not sure how this matches up with Goonhammers Meta-Analysis showing Guard to be low teir.

On a positive note the Chimera has finally gotten the point drop it has seriously needed.  That appears to be a removal of the vehicle weapons tax and getting the multilaser for free.  On the downside if vehicle weapon taxes have been abolished then the Basilisk has a ninja point hike depending on which vehicles it is compared to.

GW has made these publicly available so all good :tu:

I do wish they'd done their usual magenta highlights so I could figure out what had changed

Good thing there's write ups on these things not that I'm playing any at the moment

hey Bob, im pretty sure your not supposed to list individual points like that, might wanna edit that

That’s a good thing to keep in mind.  Thank you for bringing it up Eight.  The rules at B&C disallow excessive points displays but do permit total values on each HQ/Troop/HS/etc like listed above.  If I listed base and individual costs on Commander-LRBT and Demolisher Cannon that would have been a no-no.

Duz also makes a good point that the usual rules might be more aimed at purchased material.

thats good, been a while since ive been on the board, it used to be a lot more strict on those things.

showing my age :biggrin.:

Happy with these as it turns out. I saw the 5 point Infantry hike and felt cold dread but other points, especially the Bullgryns, make my normal lists a bit cheaper.

Still need a new codex though!

The drop in points on bullgryns definitely helps, but the increase on infantry squads and astropaths really hurts. I would have preferred they dropped the points on grots and conscripts instead of making infantry more expensive. I run 10 infantry squads in my combined arms list. That makes my infantry alone 50 points more expensive. After all increases were counted my army went from 2000 points to 95 points. The sad truth is that the guard needed an overall points reduction, not an increase in the basic troops.

One of the most interesting things about the change for me is that there isn’t actually a ppm value for the infantry squad anymore, but rather a point value for the unit selection.

Also while the base price did go up they did grace us by reducing the grievously overpriced vox caster by half so for those of us who take those the points didn’t change.

Vox-caster is still +5 for all units I'm afraid. Or am I looking in the wrong spot?

Really? I looked in the old 9th Minitorum Manual and I really can't recall it ever being 10 in 8th or even 7th...?

I can’t remember because I haven’t made any attempts to play since 9th started but wasn’t it changed to 10 at the start of 9th? The evidence is now destroyed I guess.
