ThePenitentOne
Many things I'm curious about here. First off is a clarification on how Unaligned Units should be incorporated into larger armies. Is it the case that they can be fielded outside of detachments without breaking your Battle Forged status, or is it true that they can be added into detachments without jeopardizing your detachment abilities/ Chapter Tactics, etc? Or can it be either of those two options? If it's the first in the list, do you have to pay CP to include the unit since it's outside of a detachment? If both methods of inclusion are possible, which do you think is best and why? Finally, does anyone out there include unaligned units on a regular basis, and if so, which ones are your favourites? I'm asking all of these questions on behalf of my friend the Zoat. I love my Zoat, and I always thought he should be a bigger deal than he actually is. I can see him working with a radical Xenos Inquisitor, especially since he is an Archivist, and therefore knows a great many secrets which the Ordo Xenos may deem valuable. It occurred to me that I could make him into the big deal that I want him to be by including him in a Crusade of said Ordo Xenos operatives. Thoughts? Doghouse
That would make an amazing comment for a Watch Master to make while escorting an Inquisitor in talks with a race such as the Aeldari or Tau. I like the idea of the Deathwatch sitting there looking at the Zoat like a dog watching you eat waiting for you to turn away so it can jump on your plate and snatch something. The way I see it is they are probably the ones most likely to work with aliens through their contact with Ordo Xenos radicals and the like. A Zoat helping an Inquisitor find lost Archeotech would be extremely lore friendly. I see it in the same light as maybe Exorcist marines working alongside and Ordo Malleus radical who uses possessed Psykers. Snazzy
Sorry for the necro, but yes, you can integrate the Zoat if you want. It will cost 2CPs for an Auxiliary Detachment. Unaligned units run into the problem of all non-Auxiliary and Fortification Detachments requiring every unit within them to be from the same faction. Unaligned do not have a HQ unit, so they cannot form anything but single model Auxiliaries. ThePenitentOne
I don't mind necroposts. Thanks for the feedback. My poor Zoat still needs paint. I'm going to be able to game again soon- phase one of reopening begins at one minute after midnight tonight. I won't be able to play in stores until phase two or three, but I need models ready to go! I've got a friend I can play BSF with at a home; he's got the BSF Core set fully painted. I have the Traitor Command, Zoat, and Escalation sets, all in lovely grey plastic. He and I played one game before Nurgle bushwhacked us with Covid. Our cards should still be bagged. Snazzy
It is a real shame that BSF units exist in their strange limbo. Unaligned units are so much fun. I really wanted to use Spindle Drones and Guardian Drones in a Black Legion army. But, there is no organic way to do it. There is also room in a Drukhari army for an Ambull, i feel. The rules do not support that. The point costs of BSF stuff is way off, too. Obsidius Mallus is a great example. He has to lead a Chaos, or Sergeants of the Abyss Patrol just to be able to field the other BSF units without the rest of your CSMs losing their access to Legion Traits and Stratagems. The problem is that he is 25 points more than a Chaos Lord with the same equipment, has no Mark of Chaos, and upgrades. BSF is a great product, though. Love the models and love the scale it occupies.
