logan_grimnar18
does anyone have a link to a decent tutorial for painting thunder wolves and cloaks? specifically, the light brown TWC on the box art or something similar? I tried following the video GW made for the fenresian wolf but it didn't quite come out right. I'd also like to apply that coloring to the tabards and tails on some of my models thanks! Karhedron
I have a simple but effective technique I use on my Space Wolves. First I basecoat the fur area in white. Then I pick a medium shade of brown. I use the old Calthay Brown but Mournfang Brown is probably the closest current equivalent. This process involves wet blending so you need to be reasonably quick. I apply a fairly thick coat of brown to the upper part of the fur and white to the lower part. Then I clean my brush. With the brush slightly wet, work the white and brown together in the middle so that you get a smooth(ish) fading from the solid brown at the top to the white at the bottom. If you are not quite happy with the effect, add a little more brown or white as necessary and blend them in. You don't have to worry about perfection. You are painting a natural material so some variation and imperfection is fine. Once you are happy, allow it to dry thoroughly. Once it is dry, apply a wash of Aggrax Earthshade. Apply it mostly to the upper brown part of the fur and draw just enough of the wash down on to the white to provide some shading. Again allow it to dry throughly. Then get a drybrush and gently drybrush white onto the fur to pick out the raised areas and bring the texture to life. Job done! It is easier than it sounds and after a bit of practice, you can probably do small areas like wolf tails in less time than it took me to type this. Here is an example of the finished effect. In Duncan We Trust: EDIT: I appear to have embedded the video rather than creating a link - apologies to the Mods if this isn't allowed but I am not sure how to fix it!
