Mogsam
Finishing off the land speeder with some weathering. It's really just the weapons at this point and I'll be doing meltas in bulk later on! I wasn't sure about this one to start with. The design is so silly, yet now working on it I'm a big ol' fan and bought another. It's so much worse game wise than a javelin, but rule of cool. Mogsam
Often deployed as void warfare specialists, the Wayfinders were early adopters of the Warder variant breacher shield. These shields would prove their value on countless occasions when defending their vessels from the ++redacted++. I'd been avoiding this for a while as I wasn't happy with how blank the shields were, but happy with the squiddly bits at the bottom and the heavy weather in. Only another 8 to go! Slave to Darkness
Looking good. Loving the colour scheme. Whats the deal with the single furry leg though? Torbenos
It's always a challenge and a smidge controversial to try and approach the Lost Legions, some things are better left a mystery after all. But you've made a striking go at it here! I quite enjoy the colour scheme and symbolism, makes them stand out from the other legions. I enjoy the pieces of fur on the legs, another unique aspect that makes them stand apart. The fact that the influences aren't utterly overt too is a good sign in my book, avoids the flanderisation that many legions/chapters easily fall into. Excellent painting as well, they look in the midst of it all. I look forward to seeing more. Mogsam
Thanks, glad you're enjoying the scheme! The fur on the leg is for two reasons. 1. It's symbolism. In the Legion background the primarch uses an animal as a lure to kill a great monster. The fur is symbolic to remind the Legionnaires that even the most humble of creature plays a part in defeating the biggest beast. This also plays into the need for faith in themselves and others theme. 2. In the grim dark future of humanity the only style choice is ugg boots. Thanks for the comments on the scheme, I think it's quite unique but it's not overly complicated like some of the successor chapters, so it could have been a legion! I'm glad it's seen as understated, I agree that sometimes the wolf Legion is too wolfie etc! I've been working on the breachers and now have them mostly completed. The last bit on these models is the right arms. I had built them to be armed with volkites using the mournival rules, but I realised that I'd need a normal bolter unit first. I'm trying to avoid using bolters in the Legion, but there's no normal way to field volkite unfortunately! Graceless
Really like your ideas Mogsam. The colour scheme and emblem are very cool. The faux-blackbook style for your history is also awesome. Mogsam
Many thanks, it helps the motivation to see comments coming in! The latest things on the table are a pair of Death guard dreads. They're cool models and scream heresy while also being very easy to de-death guard. I also took the II for a spin in some garden hammer. I've got about 3k at least undercoated in orange at this point. Highlights of the IIs first day out: - a IW leviathan surviving 5 grav weapons to the face and an enraged contemptor with a chain fist and 6 attacks on 1HP. - Said leviathan moving on to chainfist the contemptor and charge my 1st Captain who suffers instant death to an impact hit. - putting down 9 grav templates a turn is fun and has some weird rule interactions with rapiers. - a termite can destroy a building hilariously. Mogsam
An update, dropping a number of volkites onto the tactical support marines. I've also had a chance to work through a pair of sabres. They're on the table for weathering now, but love a sabre! SvenIronhand
The little tufts of fur on the Veterans' legs sort of remind me of Zulus. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/368920-the-fall-of-the-2nd-legion/page/2/#findComment-5689509 Share on other sites

Mogsam
@sven - they were an early influence. It was originally a toss up between African and Polynesian for theme. Polynesian won, but I stuck with the leg ugg boots as I like them anyway! @morngrym - thanks. I'll probably save up most of the tanks and do them in one session! I've run out of typhus corrosion, which I think I'll need for the next step! Until the stock comes in, here's some less flashy rapiers. I've got a slight obsession with grav now. I've also had a second fame of Gardenhammer and got a snap of the II on parade. Next up is turning the proteus in the background into a phobos. The plastic land raider isn't heresy enough! Mogsam
So, bit quiet but have progressed a couple of things have been progressed! The first is a conversion of a proteus into a phobos. The plastic one wasn't heresy enough for me! Next up is a sicaran arcus, ready for some transfers and weathering. Mogsam
Going way back to the start of this project, I knew I wanted the Legion to stand out and be Polynesian, but the difficulty of doing patterns really hindered that. As a result, it kind of fell by the wayside and became heavily featuring Krakens as an alternative source. This is great, but I really want that cultural theme to stand out, so rather than try to commision some transfers or look for an alternative, I've had a go at doing some of my own. They've come out quite nicely and I've had a go on the Arcus and some rhino dozers. I overinked the first set by doubling layers, so will be going back for a second go to get control of the excess bleed. I've also polished off most of the second speeder. It's fairly rubbish on the field, but damn I like them. The new transfers you have designed definitely get them back to the original theme and are a nice touch. Mogsam
Thanks guys. I'm surprised how well they turned out to be honest! The latest work has been to jazz up the power maul unit. While it is cool, it doesn't shout "unique!". It just looked like some tactical guys with mauls. So, I've pulled these fellas together. "Chief Apothecary Nikau was the most senior survivor of his colleagues after the Xenocides. When Captain Kalei proposed to take the remainder of the Legion away from Tranquility to continue the crusade, Nikau was quick to support him, pushing for the mass recruitment of brothers from new worlds to ensure the legions survival after so many had fallen." I saw the backpack on the Fabius model and had to make a better apothecary. While this fella is still having his transfers flattened, he's also a test for some of the new polynesian graphics and will be weathered soon. Finally, as this is a legion project, it seemed sensible to make some Legion dice, like all the others! Bjorn Firewalker
Excellent work on the Chief Apothecary. Did you take inspiration from the movie Phantasm and its antagonist, the Tall Man? Mogsam
I've never heard of the Phantasm, mostly it's a bit of fabius and a bit of an octopus theme for the nautical theme. Bit of an update, firstly we will start with a bit of fluff around the Xenocides and just how incredibly badly it goes for the II. I've noticed a few errors, but will fix the spelling/grammar! Secondly, I took the II Legion on tour down to the South West (UK) yesterday at Union County Games / End of Empires. I had to rush the Legion into service a bit earlier than expected, so still have a ways to go, but I was chuffed to win favourite Army!
