I’d expect there would be something of a Praevian equivalent among the TS especially before and during the heresy and I would think them most likely especially among the cults/ brotherhoods who specialize in more physical disciplines. Even among the telepath brotherhood, there would likely be individuals who are more suited to this task then others or telepaths who struggle with working with a machine spirit.
or maybe that is a position for someone who is gifted but can’t make the grade to full magister... so he kind of boosts his powers  with lore / implants from the Mechanicum and focuses on the service with battle automata?

Anyway, there easily is room for a sort of more Artificer than wizard in the Legion IMO

While the Thousand Sons may have had specialists within their ranks to control some battle automata, the Castellax-Achaea lacked the normal cortex controls that a standard specialist would need, being responsive solely to psychic control. I didn't find anything in The Horus Heresy VII - Inferno to indicate whether or not specialist psykers controlled the Castellax-Achaeas, but I only conducted a quick skim of the book. Also, there might be information in Black Library novels that provides more information.

I figured that there would be someone, but I could not find any specific reference to such a specialism or any title for such a role. Might just stick with using Praevian for what I have in mind as from what I read the development of the Achaea automaton only started after they found and allied with Zhao-Arkhad forgeworld and there presumably would have been Praevian in the legion before then.

I mean, a Thousand Sons Praevian would also be a Psyker (iirc TS characters can/have to buy Psychic levels) so, it might just be that.

I bet they still have to google answers like everyone else at the helpdesk.
